Or more accurately the bio acid spore mine fired by the Biovore.
I have read that a lot of people are giving up on biovores in the new codex.
I think that is a big mistake, I don't know if others use them for the same purpose as me but I find it very effective, and with the new rules even more so.
I use my bio acid spore mines as anti vehicle for anything that I face (besides monolith). previously I was able to pick off 3 different targets a turn, usually hitting 1 or 2 and penetrating the armour of 1 and destroying it. Now I have to aim at just 1 turn but the deviaiton is halved, and with the blast radius extended with multiple blasts the chances of hitting the target are increased even if the first one scatters.
I have taken out 3 Land raiders, 4 dreadnaughts, several predators, lots and lots of land speeders. As a nid who doesnt like assault cannons or multi meltas this tactic has served me very well. Even when missing the target I have found marine players especially spending time to destroy the mines rather than my aliens. They also tend to change their tactics to try and get at my Vores, thus leading them to get too close to very nasty friends of the vores lurking nearby.
Just wondering who else uses this tactic and if others are more willing to give the bio acid mine more of a go with the new rules?
Wow. . . must have been quite lucky on those Land Raiders. The maximum penetration by a BioAcid mine is 15, meaning you only have a 1/12 chance of scoring a potentially damaging hit.
I might use the Bio-Acid mines more, but I'm not sure if I'll want to use Biovores. With the fact that they now behave as a brood have a significantly lower leadership, just one dying out of Synapse means that the whole bunch of them will almost certainly run. In all likelyhood, I'll simply fill out my Fast Attack with Spore Mines.
well i havent used biovores before but if they work as well as you say they do then it is worth a shot... i like the models anyway. i would love to use them as you say as a sort of bait(after proving them a danger fore marines) and lure some of my more shooty adapted apponents into some close combat ambushes... hmm, i am inspired. do biovores shoot over buildings and stuff or do they need to see their target?
Well people it seems like are mostly giving up the biovores because the carnis are given a similar ability and are much more bang for the buck in games. You can give them guns as well and even a toned down cc fex with spore crysts would be well worth the cost instead of a biovore I think.
In another thread I noticed someone saying that Spore Cysts don't act like Biovores at all. They just belch out Spore Mines, which are placed in base contact with the Carnifex. Not quite so useful, unless you manage to get the Carnifex surrounded with enemies. Probably more useful in Seeding Swarms.
With 3 vores a turn aiming at the raider, yes you have to be lucky, but I live by the rule that you make your own luck. The best targets are landspeeders and the rear of most tanks then you only need a 7 to glance and 8+ to penetrate.
i find the benifit for me is that the worry they cause, most players think they can shoot you up with HW so they are worried that they will loose them to a mine, but what they forget is that once you enter CC the HW are useless.
If the mines miss the big tanks and they are still arround before I leave CC then I make sure my WHT rips them a new one.
From what I read it is only the toxin spore mine that the fex gets not the bio acid mine.
And yes the vore can shoot a mine over buildings etc, anything within 48".
I'd like to point out that the Spore Cyst ability does not allow the Fex to shoot a spore mine, just create one in base contact that drifts. He acts more like a Necron Tomb Spyder making Scarab Swarms than he would a Biovore.
Gyauayuayuayua! Ja! Ve vill crush da little girly men in deir little girl men awrmor! Ve vill see owur enemies driven befowur us, und hear da lahmentaytions of deir wemen. -Arnoldunit Schwarzenecronegger; when questioned about the impending doom he would rain down upon the heads of his doomed enemies.
Moroni - we may shoot your spores so we don't lose heavy weapons to them, but then again if we have the HW's still and your WHT tries to tear us a new one, then we have the HW's to tear the WHT a new one.
I seem to remember one WHT losing all four wounds to one twinlinked assault cannon, in one round. Can you say "Ouch-a-ma-gaucha"?!
Lets just say your tactics are known and we have counter tactics in the offing!
Your xeno-scum shall feel the vengeance of the sons of Russ, and the nid threat shall be found wanting!
Everybody else - yes my sig at the bottom was caused by Moroni! On more than one occassion!
Space Wolves are badasses that operate just barely within the rules.
13th Co. didn't even know there were rules applying to how badass they could be.
... and Daemonhunters make it three - now just need a spare room to store it all!!!
:p I wondered when you would get here
I know you know that tactic, I'm just making sure as many others know about it as possible, anything to help the swarm consume the imperium faster
Games day is going to be interesting as I have been waiting to use a few new things on you lot, I may not even field biovores at all...........or I may.
3000 points is a lot of nids to choose from. Depending on my objective will depend on what I field, I'm definaitely going to have both my Barbed Heirodules and my winged one handy just in case  I feel sorry for the first person to make a move against me as they will incure the complete wrath of Hive fleet Desolation.
its a shame that it is on the 4th as I will have to use the old rules as I wont be able to get a new codex and redo my whole 7000 points of army before we kick off at 8.30/9am.
