Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am new to Tyranid and I have several questions about how best to use Warriors (4th edition codex).
1. What is a typical/practical brood size? Do broods of 3 work well or do you need more to soak up fire (though now you cannot insta-kill them)?
2. What weapons are a good choice for them? Is the Devourer's 4 shots with re-rollable wounds better than the Deathspitter's strength and templates?
3. Are pure CC Warriors worth considering? or are they not too durable?
Thanks very much for putting up with my "newbie" questions and appreciate any feedback.
Well, I've only used CC Warriors, but they work well. They aren't as good as they were in 3rd, because they could move a potential 24" a turn if you morphed them out properly. Broods of 3 with Extended Carapace can suck up a lot of fire, and you can march them behind other broods to force Leadership checks by the enemy if they want to shoot the Warriors.
They are just as good in HtH this edition as they were in the last. Better, because now it takes 2 powerfist wounds to drop them.

Hey Matt, Welcome to the Swarm
Units of three warriors can work well but they are fragile. Every bolter shell that hits has a 25% chance of causing a wound, so use your terrain. Recently a land speeder nearly wiped out three of my warriors in one round of shooting. Deathspitters are still a great choice in 4th ed, wounding marines on 2s is very handy. Good Luck!
sorry for stealing your post :p but if you're starting, what should you equip your first unit of warriors with (CC or VC)???
I've always only used CC warriors... and they're the units that ususally kill most in my army. I've always gone fore broods of 4... but you have to see how you want to build up your army... I'm considering deathspitter warriors with one VC... IMO devourers arn't worth it since they're AP- and have shorter range... the AP 5 of deathspitters and S boost is very good at killing low armoured troops like the basic Eldar, Dark Eldar, Ork and IG troops
I've always used leaping warriors... don't know if winged are any good anymore since they can't haev extended char.
I think they're in the same boat as Dark Eldar Scourges. Sure they're fast and can have plenty of guns, but they're ultimately very fragile, considering their cost.Originally Posted by zhaf
For cc warriors leaping is still the best option. Not quite as fast on average but they are more durable and can still move quickly. I don't have the codex yet but I think that cc is still a great option. The only guns that I would give them though would be the deathsplitter or maybe with the new living amnunition, devouerer. That is what 4 shots at strenght 4 with reroll to wound, nasty, but a short death range.
Warriors arn't beast anymore and it slows them down to a maximum of 18" on the otherside winged warriors doesn't get fleet either so they're also limited only to 18"... the advantage with winged are that they are more manuverable... but at the cost of worse save.Originally Posted by Warrior47
on the shooting thing IMO devourers have more disadvantages than advantages, first that it's AP- so eveyone gets their save... and it's having a hard time damagin tanks and such.
The advantages are the living ammunition rule and it's slighty cheaper than the deathspitter.
The deathspitter have greather range now and in the hands of a warrior with toxin saxs it's S6 AP5... and would wound avarage on 2+ or 3+.
Devourers have Ax2 and deathspitter smalblast... they'll hit most of the time the same amount of enemies... and deathspitters will wound more. So I'd only stick with deathspitters.
It kinda depends on the enemy. My first warrior brood (I still don't have one!) will have guns, because you need some firepower in a young swarm. It's the best firepower you have at the moment (unless you got a carnifex!). Even then, I'd still take some guns for them. There has to be some heavy weapons to take out (or damage) the tanks and bigger guys. If you play against IG and you want to outnumber them, Deathspitters are great. The template can reduce your enemies so that you can outnumber them in cc, which is very helpful!

I have 12 CC warriors and 12 shooting warriors and the ones I use more are undoubtedly the CC warriors. In broods of 3 warriors costing arround 120 points they can rip through a marine squad with relative ease. They can destroy dreadnaoughts when they roll a six with their rending claws. I genuinely think they are the 2nd best unit in my nid force. The shooty warriors are also effective, but because in the current codex the range of most weapons is so short you are definatly going to get shot at big time by your opponant before you get a shot off, in the new codex they may have addressed that, but I will wait to see on the 4th.
CC warrior best with ST & RC, ext CAr, improved WS and leaping.
