Reading through some of the fluff topics floating about in the army fluff, I've found that some people on here have the same general view of the orks as I do: an immune system put into place by the Old Ones.
It seems to make sense. Ork numbers swell according to the threat. They live for one thing and one thing only: squigs, er, wait, no, fighting. They have a latent psychic power that not only lets them learn skills innately and powers their technology, but also might allow for WAAAGHS to take place with no planning (triggers put into place by the Old Ones?). They respond and react to whatever they're faced with, if not in an apparent fashion, ork lootas being one example. And, of course, the more they fight, the bigger they get. I'd shudder to think what sort of stats the Arch-Arsonist would have if he came to the table armed with his trusty choppa.
Except for the occasional misadventure (*coughcoughChaosOrkzcoughcough*) they seem relatively immune to the powers from the beyond. Khorne might pay attention to them, but they don't fight for any other reason then the sheer fact that it's FUN. Poor old Tzeenie probably gets a massive migraine from trying to direct their movements. Slaneshi? Who needs it? As for Nurgle, they're green, he's green, but that's about it.
Anyway, I was just wondering what the rest of the ork warbosses out there thought. Are orkz just orkz? Or are they a massive immune system (a hive-mind like the 'nids, but capable of individual thought?)? How do YOU view your boys?
"Some days you're the Mekboy building the kannon, the rest you're the grot being blown up by it."

"Dis iz my choppa, and herez me gun. Dat's for killin' and so'z dis one!"

Yeah I've always thought the "created by the old ones for war" is the coolest Ork fluff. I read somewhere that they were designed especially to destroy the Necrons, which is awesome.
Da Boyz are sort of the ultimate force of life and vitality in the galaxy, far more so than the doomed eldar and decrepit backwards looking humans.
Of course my boyz don't know any of this. They just get the urge to krump whoever dey meet every now and again...
I thought that was the point of inlcuding the fluff about the orks never being truely unified. Instead they attack whatever race gets the most powerful to keep them in check (currently the immperium), then they go back to warring amongst themselves. Thus, only when a race, or force, gets powerful enough to unseat the stability of the galaxy, the orks are there, choppas waiting.
This theory I think fits perfectly with the flow of the glalaxy. Lets say the Tyrandis start pushing the Imperium back, and the balance of power shifts, the orks will step in (if only due to primordial urge to fight and kill, instead of counscius thought) to stem the tide to keep the glalaxy in a balance. Actually its kinda kool to think of the orks as the perverbial guardians of the galaxy, even if they are too dumb to realize it.
As to the orks being built to destroy the Necrons, I'm sure they were, just as a number of races were designed for that purpose. The Eldar were created to destroy the Necrons, so why not the orks. We also know that the Old Ones created a number of other non-playable races with the intent of stopping the C'tan so I fully belive that the orks are in place to help stop the Necrons when they awaken. Keeping the balance of power as stated above.
I really like this. Its cool in a 'episode of tv show where good guys and bad guys team up to fight an even badder guy' sorta way.
I just want my work and to hurry and give me my pay check so I can buy some ork stuff. I wand to find out how long it is till they get updated though. I dont wanna buy the codex stuff then it not work anymore.
ahem... i'm sure there's an eaier way to go abaout it than that...Originally Posted by robotnik

however, i do beleive orks are indeed very cool, and although both times i have played my necrons against my friend's orks i have lost, i can't beleive that in fluff terms the orks actually have a chance against the necrons. necrons have ultimate staying power of doom.
i think orks could. think of it a bunch of orks land on a tomb world they fight the necrons the necrons kill them. now there are more orks than before because when they die they release spores and such. they fight the necrons again and die. now more orks than last time. the tomb world is forever infected by the orks and eventually there will be enough orks to destroy the necron tomb, thus destroying the necrons on that planet.
Well, i think if there is anyone that can stop the Nids, they are the Orks, Both races learn of the battles, but the orks are the coolest :p
Don´t try to hide, i can smell your corruption...

whats the point of this thread. i just dont get it.
What is the point of that post? I just don't get it. Anyways, I never really thought of it that way. I just thought of orks as primitive killing machines, sorta. That is a really great idea. Kudos to citybeatnik.Originally Posted by Burn the Herectic
