    First squads!

So... I finally got my first box of gaunts. I know what color scheme I think i will go with, but am at a loss for what guns to go with. From appearance alone, I would go with spinefists... Any suggestions from the vets here as to what's more useful/ more effective?

p.s. a hive fleet name would be good cause i'm not using the ones in the book (just gotta be difficult about things :-P )

Spinefists are great all around. They kill poorly armoured troops quite nicely, are dirt cheap, and now alway come twin-linked. They provide you with some great fodder, yet can be very effective, too.

Fleshborers are better than the used to be, because of Living Ammunition. Still, the lack of AP makes them rather difficult to choose unless you're shooting at something that Spinefists AP can't penetrate.

Devourers, being the weakest weapon are also difficult to choose. Even though they also have Living Ammunition, have better range than the above weapons, and have two shots, they also have the lowest strength and boosting that strength makes fielding them quite expensive.

Personally, I suggest that the bulk of your Gaunts have Spinefists. If you play alot of games against Marines, Necrons, and other armies with great armour, then it may be worthwhile to also have some Fleshborers. Devourers really are a crap-shoot. They're very expensive, but their additional range might make them worthwhile, so. . . I really can't make any suggestions either way, for them.

Spinefists all the way!!!! If you want fleshborers that is ok too but they are more expensive but seem to be good if you don't have a ton of guys. I have learned that for spinefists to be very effective, in the old codex, you need 16 gaunts, not a big leap from 8. Devourers are way too expensive for gaunts, they are really just cheap fodder that work like a preliminary bombardment that weaken enemy lines. I personally like the spinefists even with only 8 gaunts.

You will never regret taking spinefists. Use the fleshborers if its all you have (battle of macragge sprues), I would stay away from devourers. Just my 2cp.
