    War Vets Cheese

Man I just got my butt kicked today by my friend who plays space marines! There was plenty of cover and I was getting good coversaves on almost every shot he fired but what really killed me was the fact that he had a squad of tyranic war vets who just sat out in front and obliterated my guys while his heavy support and troops just hung back and used them as a shield while they fired at me. The hellfire round is so awesome!, unless your on the receiving end of it. Does anyone have any good effecient method of killing these units? They just seem so good for such a small cost!

Well they are designed specifallcly to kill tyranids so your unlucky thre. i gues you could try and take them out with the Zonathorpeswarp blast. Thats aslong as he does not have a Librarian.

Our grammatically-challenged friend has a point. Knowing your list, and the marine player's, would help. But generally:

With their krak grenade special rules, the hunters will kill monstrous creatures pretty quick. Throw a large squad of gaunts at them, supported by feeder tendrils and catalyst. The gaunts will keep the hunters busy, fight back even as they die, and hit on 3+'s same as the hunters. Don't let one enemy unit throw off your entire strategy. If you do, the opponent just won.

Tyrannic Vets and Deathwatch should be treated as normal marines. They are not harder and stronger than a normal marine and thus should be killed in a similar way. Swamp them with some decent gaunts. One of the big advantage that Tyrannic Vets and DW have is the fear factor, like ff515 said, dont let them force you to replan your strategy. Swamp them and you should be fine

Yeah I tried that but by the time my gaunts got down the board there weren't that many left cause he just set up a firing line behind them. I think he had:
    1 dreadnaut
    3 terminators
    1 librarian
    2 squads or sms
    1 squad of war vets
    1 devestator squad
1 tank (had twinlinked lascannon and 2 heavy bolters)

I don't remember exactly what I had but it was something like this:
    6 warriors (leaping)
    20 spinegaunts
    20 adrenagaunts
    1 zoanathorpe
    a brood of regular genestealers
    4 flying ripper swarms

I think that it was around the same points but we were playing 3rd edition tyranid codex so he used his devestator squad, tank, and dreadnauts lascannons to take out my warriors and thorpe in the first two turns and bolter fire and war vets took care of my gaunts

actually the prefered enemy doesn't work against MC and as for the warpblast, if he uses the weaker one it can't be cancelled.

Ive learned the hard way that anti-nid units and armies hurt. a lot. My friends all gear their armies up to kill me now; and most of the time it works.

Well, you can start by telling him he needs 4 terminators to make up a retinue or 5 to make up an elites squad.

And those armies don't quite seem equal to me.. But I'm just guessing.
