Does it make alot of sense to D fields on flayed ones? For just 3 more points a model, you could have an effective tank hunting unit with the lord VoD around map. Or is this just a stupid and insanley idoic idea :p ?
i think having scarabs with d fields wound be better for three reasons, less points, more attack , more wounds. and since a vehicle has no WS, the scarabs bad WS problem would be iliminated. there is one downside, from my memory(at school so no codex) the scarab have pretty much terible toughness so it's probably easier to kill. but i still think scarabs with dfields are better
Ya, I know that D fielded scarabs are good at what they do, not arguing that. But I wonder if one needed more "necron" units that flayed ones with d fields might be a better choice?
flayed ones are really more suitable for attacking creature kind of characters but flayed ones with d fields is kind of a interesting idea. lol why not try using wraiths
Scarabs fit into the role of Tank Hunter better only because they move farther. If you Veil the Flayed Ones near a tank, you're stuck sitting until next turn to assault. That means you could be shot to pieces or counter charged before you even get a chance to assault. Or worse, the tank could move so it's outside your charge range anyway. Scarabs have that extended movement, so they often reach tanks on the turn you decide to go after them.

I would take a unit of scarabs with DFields long before Flayed Ones. Deep Striking assault units is only asking for they to get wiped out before they can assault. Sure scarabs have a lower toughness but keeping them away from STR 6 attacks before they can assault is much easier when they move like jetbikes.
IMHO Necrons need the most fast units they can get! With no real transport vehicle they can only walk or teleport to the enemy. In my experience both of these modes of transportation is a death march for assauly-only units.
You could take scarabs and some more warriors to add an assault unit and get more Necron models on the board.
Yeah, but when you deepstrike assault-only units they either become swiss cheese or quickly run out of targets. With a movement of only 6" they can't catch units that run away from them and with no ranged weapons they are sitting ducks on the turn they appear. This is a similar problem when deepstriking scarabs but at least they have a 12" move so they can catch almost anything on turn two (if they survive that long).
