I am thinking of starting a dark eldar army but im not sure whether to or not because my friends say they are the worst army, ive heard they'r really good if you learn how to use them. I collect high elves which are also hard to use but i always kick my friends ass with them. What are the good things about the dark eldar? I like the sound of taking my friends helpless space marines and tyranids prisoner and torchering them at will (I like haemonculi[soz probs spelt it wrong] and the talos and spiky people look awsome!!!
I'm not a DE player but i've been considering getting into them on and off. There are one or two hang-ups for me. One: wych squads depend a lot on luck (of which i have none) as their combat drug rolls oftentimes determine their use. Two: With 4th edition rules and the amount of high-strength anti-tank weapons out there, raiders are now pretty much deathtraps for your troops, which leaves two alternatives, A) footslog towards your enemy being riddled down by shooting, or b) webway portals (of which you must footslog something up to get it where you want it.) Weren't DE supposed to be a fast army?
Well After reading through their codex I am nearly dead set on moving from orks to these guys.
Last time I checked, weren't the DE getting redone? My friend started collecting them but our local hobby store doesn't carry them anymore.
Morituri te salutant
No they got discontiuned in america. You cna still get them by mail order.
From what I've gathered (though this all might just be rumour and speculation), both Dark Eldar and Eldar have a new codex in the works, along with new models for DE. Don't hold your breath though, I've also heard from many people that it'll probably be around two years away. So if you want to get Dark Eldar, make sure you realise that GW has them on the backburner and so for the moment you'll have to take them like they are.
Well DE are a really good army because of heaps of things well for a start most things are initiative 5 or higher now they strike before most troops in 40K, another thing is their number is usually a good thing 10-20 for their warriors and also low points cost so you can hav tonnes of warriors in a 1500 point game, another thing is a few of the weapons are really nasty against tanks (Blaster,DarkLance), Their heavy support is awesome scourges for a start they can hav 4 heavy weapons and they have jump packs. The talos is very good if you use it right.
Thats all i hav to say.
EVERYONE is getting a new codex, all the armies in the next ?6? or so years to make everything flush wiht the new rules, there is no date set for the dark eldars new codex. the line hasn't been disconitnued simply moved to mail order. (This is true, from proper sources.)
Yes the models will be redesigned and rereleased with the new codex as far as I am aware. This is not gospel, don't trust what I am saying. (This is a mixture of internet rumour, corroborated through various sources, reading interview transcripts with GW staff and picking up rumours at GW HQ when I play there, agin not fact, just the most logical guess.)
The dark eldars strengths are
1) Great at close combat
2) Very good at shooting
3) Most amnouverable froce in the game and the fastest
Their disadvantages are Low toughness, Rubbish armour save, AV 10 vehicles.
With karantalsis' permission I'm adding a couple of key advantages:
1) Dark eldars are hard to play, that makes winning and learning a more satisfactory process.
2) It's VERY FUNNY to play with dark eldars, not like those boring shooty armies(subjective).
