Welcome to Librarium Online!
i was just wondering if anyone has got a genestealer army.people talk about it but i've never seen one.
DO THEY WORK?
I would of thought that the points would be to easy to lose from shooting but know they have fleet and the broodlord people could probily pull it off.
I believe this thread was done omewaht recently, but alas I coudnt find it
IIRC the general opinion was that they would not work. While Genestealers are very good, they require complimentary units to allow them to get to where they are needed.
It does and it doesn't. I used to field GS as my only troops choice back in 3rd (I just had a ton that I had gotten mostly for free, so I went with it.) Some missions I could never win (anything againt IG) Others, I had to really screw up if I was going to lose (Strongppoint assault, 40 infiltrating GS right up on the Deployment line made most people just surrender after turn 2).
I tried a variation of my original army in 4rth against IG. I again was left with just my monsters on the table, but the Ex Car stealers do last a lot longer (longer still if he didn't have 3 Hellhound tanks..stupid ap 4/cover save negating template flamers)
An all GS army probably won't win many games, but I think a GS heavy army could do quite well, especially if you support them well enough. Raveners and spinegaunts spring to mind, their speed and numbers should draw fire away from the Stealers. A Broodlord is pretty much a must for a GS heavy army. Slap in some Zoans or Shooty Carnies for fire support and charge the enemy.
Gyauayuayuayua! Ja! Ve vill crush da little girly men in deir little girl men awrmor! Ve vill see owur enemies driven befowur us, und hear da lahmentaytions of deir wemen. Und from owur home planet, de stayte uf Califowurnia, ve vill lawunch owur mighty offensive. Even if you kill us, ve'll be bach!! Gyauayauyauyauyau!
-Arnoldunit Schwarzenecronegger; when questioned about the impending doom he would rain down upon the heads of his doomed enemies.
I'm also planning on having a GS heavy army. The idea behind mine is to avoid using spine gaunts :o And instead go for hormagaunts. With their speed they should be able to tie up a lot of squads and direct fire away from the GS. Always give extended caraspace to your stealers. They last a lot longer.
You call those cheap implants boobs?
They aren't boobs, they're lies!
Keep your GS units cheap. if you load them up with stuff they wont last long and you wont have many support units. scuttling is my suggestion get them there faster. cant shoot at them in CC.

If you have enough genestealers it will work. You should keep your genestealers cheap like they said above. I would always take ec and maybe adapt certain squads to do certain things from there.

In my new list I still have 36 stealers, 1 winged Tyrant, the 6 winged Warriors and 30 hormies but I have a carnie with strangler, scyth tals and tusked.
The key to using a stealer heavy army is distraction.
Thats why I have the winged Tyrant and Warriors plus the 30 hormies. With the Carnie and all the other nasties its very hard for the opponent to choose what to shoot at as there is so much fast moving threat in the list.
I love stealers and I love it when I put 36 on the table. The opponents face is usually a picture and its even better when the stealers hit the opponents expensive HQ unit and rip them apart.
If the stealers get into combat its usually game over for the opponent.

Also, you yourself shouldn't overestimate stealer's ability to perform in combat. Unless you rip a squad apart in the first charge, you'll almost always get charged by something else, in which case it will be highly unpleasant for you. If they're outnumbered, they're screwed. IE: 8 tooled up stealers took out 1/2 a SM command squad, including the master, then died when a second tactical squad charged them.
Bottom line is you've got to be very, very careful with them. Fragile but deadly, kinda reminds me of banshees...
Dreams give us a vision of a world unlike any we have seen. They present us with a glimpse of a better life; a goal to aspire to, and in the face of insurmountable odds, they provide us with the power to overcome, to live on, and to succeed where we would have otherwise failed.
Well it all depends if the nid player is a seasoned player.Originally Posted by dymew
In my old list(pre new codex) I took 2 winged Tyrants, 6 winged Warriors, 30 hormies in teams of 10(with hive node) and 36 stealers with scything talons.
Every game I played the stealers always got in combat, always!! and 12 stealers with scyt on the charge 99% of time they killed the unit they hit with minimal losses.
I use units of 12 for the 48 attacks, I never have much trouble getting all the attacks in 1st round, I avoid attacking into cover with stealers(thats the hormies job)
I used distraction and multiple threats and get the hormies in CC fast to block LOS to keep the stealers safe and I never just stood them in the open to get shot.Being careful applies to any unit, but I never had much problem keeping stealers alive. It is no where near impossible to get stealers into CC, if you or whoever your playing cant do it, well rethink tactics, deployment and the list.
The stealers are 2nd wave assault and they dont usually assault alone, they will usually be attacking a unit already involved with hormies or Warriors.
I dont overestimate the stealers CC abilitys, they dont need overestimating. They are the best basic CC unit in the game bar none.
In 26 games with my pre new codex stealer 2000pt list I lost 4 games, so I think I will have to disagree with you, and the new list with 36 upgraded stealers looks even better.
I have played all types of players from vets, shop staff, beginners, tournie vets and this list has consistently kicked ass.
Its my most successful army to date.
