As I write this, I have just packed away my shiny new half finished falcon grav tank, because I simply cant make myself glue the damn thing together before I have the new codex in my hands. I dont want to cobnvert any weapons or upgrades onto it, simply because I don´t know if it will be ruined with the new codex. The current codex is a 50/50 mix of horribly broken and useless units/upgrades, that no sane player will ever put on the board, and some almost overly effective units/upgrades, and knowing how GW makes works, I see no reason why 4th edition should be diffrent. I just have this feeling that some of our good units will be ruined, and vice versa, simply because it would force every eldar player out there to buy new stuff, but which ones will it be? My doubt discourages me from putting anything together.. why spend 2 weeks on converting and painting a falcon, if it turns out to be next editions fireprism? And what about farseers, wraithlords, serpents, guardians, jetbikes and shuricats? What will rock and what will suck? Am I the only pondering on that quastion? And what does the more expirienced players, who have expirienced a codex change before think?
Don't worry about that stuff yet. Even the rumors say it won't be queue'd atleast until December, around Christmas. Kick butt with Eldar now, see what happens in the new codex, and decide what to do from there, who knows, maybe they will upgrade the armor on our tanks from 12 to 13 or something, it's dumb how the Tau Hammerhead has a 13 armor side, it's a skimmer just like ours, why can't we have that!
Why is it dumb... why should every army have the exact same units?Originally Posted by Emp.
A Tau Hammerhead is NOT the same as a Eldar Falcon, therefore they will have different stats. Pretty simple.
Or do you want to go back to the days when Space Marines could have jetbikes, and Eldar could have Landraiders.#
As to waiting for a new codex. Meh, if you waited for the codex then you could wait forever... i mean, you can wait for the 4th edition codex, but then... maybe you should wait till 5th edition... but then you should wait for the 5th edition codex... etc.
Your better off playing with the codex you have and having fun, and not worrying about the new codex till we at least have a release date for it.
I got a friend tht plays eldar and I've read all of the Codex, as well as played against him.
I agree that the Eldar of a mix of over-powered and super-useless. I think that it should be re-arranged a little, but I'm positive that everything will be balanced. Don't worry about massive changes. Also, I'm sure its fair to say that they will keep the same [types of] units, so all your current models will be good for the future.
I want a quick ramble on what I think should change:
1) Aspect warriors not good at evrything, but only their job (Dark reapers with THAT initiative? grrrr)
2) tighter limit on wraithlords (you knew it was coming)
3) Warrior-style HQ choice (like a super exarch witha retinue of his aspect), that far-seer is too slow and short ranged and not-good at fighting.
4) Starcannon and reaper launcher with AP 3. 2 isn't fair, guys with that armor are too expensive to be shot down, think terminator versus dark reaper, then who's more expensive. (Yes, I am sypathising with the Marines)
End rant. Whew
Just play man, teh Codex is a llong way off. Don't worry about it.

I said nothing about having the exact same units, also I never said they were exact, where did you get that from? I also don't want them to be the same or I would agree with you and say that would be stupid, the only thing I want similar is the armour values because my Falcon (when I used it in games) got shot down pretty easily by my opponents so +1 to armour values would help, obvously not all people think that way and have different opinions like you but I have the right to speak my opinion.

Which Halo character are you?
You talk alot, you don't do much, but at times you can be invaluable.
And you are forgetting that Falcons have Holo-Fields. Big difference.
Reakly though, comparing Tau Skimmers to Eldar skimmers is useless. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Two totally different armies from two totally different worlds.

Seriously, though. If you are worried about it, do what I did. Simply attack all your weapons using Rare Earth Neodymium magnets. Assuming that they keep the same models (they probably will keep MOST of them), your fire points will not change. As such, if GW decides to make Shuri-Cannons rending and Star Cannons AP3, then pop-off the old star cannons and pop on the Shuri-cannons. It works amazingly well and allows for incredible heavy weapon flexibility. You can assemble all your models now, play to your heart's content, and freely switch weapons out if GW alters things not to your liking!
Death is instant, Pain will end, Glory is forever...
sorry but i have to comment that exept for saves and scorpion strength, banshees, scorps, spiders, dragons, hawks, singing spears and reapers all have the same stats. the rest is dictated by their equipment. their just differently equipped generic statlines.
really taking out power armour is what we do. don't say reduce starcannons to AP3, we're the most advanced race around, why shouldn't we be able to vaporise terminators? you don't have that much to worry about, starcannons are usually equipped on crappy aims anyway. (and reapers are AP3, and for nearly the price of a terminator) starcannons are just our version of plasma cannons.
as to the rest. wraithlords do really need a 0-1 or a 0-1 per 750 points or something.
the avatar shouldn't be that cheap. i want a cc monster. an autarch HQ would also be great.
really i don't think you jhave that much to worry about, looks like the eldar will be around for a long time. current rumours place the codex order at something like:
another big 4 sm chapter
big 4 sm chapter
we're looking at bt coming out sometime around autumn/christmas.
so orks would be spring 2006
next chapter christmas 2006
eldar/tau spring 2007
(this is peiced together from rumours, don't blame me if i'm wrong.
