I'm new to tyranids and will be starting an ary soon so here goes my first question: neither the Lictor nor the Ravener have synapse, brood telepathy or the like, so do they have to make instictive behavior tests? With high LD its not a huge worry, but would like to know if the question came up in play.
And then I read the newbie FAQ, LOL!!!
Eh. . . the Newbie FAQ is out of date. As to your question: all Tyranids not under the effect of Synapse must take Instinctive Behaviour tests. There is some point of contention, however, as to how this affects Fearless units. While they must still take the tests, Fearless units are assumed to never fall back, so failing Instinctive Behaviour might simply mean no movement.
So I'm I to think that Carnifex's have to yake this test?
Yes. All units that aren't under the influence of Synapse and aren't units with "Brood Telepathy" must take Instinctive Behaviour tests.
no carnifexes are fearless and mostorous creatures. i think gw will make the rules clear that carnifexes shud be able to operate normally like any other unit because they are fearless.Originally Posted by User_42
That's got nothing to do with it... Fearless means you never fall back, can't be pinned and automatically pass any Morale tests. IB is a Leadership test, which isn't covered by Fearless. Hence they do have to take them. Admittedly, if they fail them then they should `fall back' towards the nearest Synapse creature, which I'm not sure about for a 'fex (being Fearless should help here). Or you could just let them lurk.Originally Posted by Retard
My local GW representitive has told me that since they are fearless they never test for I.B. out of synapase range, which makes a certain amount of sense. Does need to be clarified though. Be a bit against the fluff if the recon designed lictor has to worry about having a synapse creature close by, a bunch of rippers cared, or a huge carnifex needed to bother with it, stomp chomp.
Well, currently, the Lictor and the 'fex both have to test for IB (note that this is only if they're out of Synapse range and want to move), although they both have a Leadership high enough to mostly not care, and are (perhaps) immune to the falling back towards a Synapse creature if they fail due to Fearless. Plus, you can just not move them (well, this only really makes sense for the 'fex) and shoot.Originally Posted by Llews
Rippers are Fearless and immune to IB.
That's true. Rippers are also Fearless and have an additional rule that makes them immune to Instinctive Behaviour. Carnifexes and Lictors are simply Fearless and must therefore roll Instinctive Behaviour tests.
