Welcome to Librarium Online!
I regularly play against a space marine army (using Blood Raven chapter traits). i was looking for advise against the army. He usually takes a heavily tooled up leader (usually a libririan or chaplain) with at least one devastator squad.
He hates to take tanks (and so will not take any) and since he has played against me before, wants to take heavy bolters and Lascannon equipped troops. He has gotten some terminators, and would equip them with assault cannons.
I would like some advise on how to beat such an army, considering that i have a fairly stock-standard army.
Any and all help is appreciated
What do you have? ...and what play style do you use?
IONHEADS are real nice vs. marines (hammerhead with ion gun)
By the subject of this thread, I was expecting to hear "How do I combat Deep Striking Termies?"
As O'SU said. Ion Cannnons will be your best friend since you won't really need the Railgun since there's no real armor to worry about. I'd also suggest Pathfinders with Seeker Missiles mounted on their Devilfish.
Your Fire Warriors won't be doing alot of wounds each turn per squad, but if you focus all the pulse rifles in your army on one squad at a time, he'll feel it.
Utilize Kroot Speedbumps.
Fire Knife or Death Rain configurations are a must and stay at the max distance of your weapons with the jumppacks.
Record as of 26 December for my Static Tau Cadre.
10 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw.
Last game: Victory over Necron in a 600 point "kill em all" that lasted til turn 10 ending with a phase out.
Bring 4 Battlesuits with Plasma Rifles and Fusion Blasters. Those will rape a Termie squad.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.
Member of the Canadian Clan, eh.
Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
Good old Plasma rifles. Use your Crisis suits to hop about at the limits of his range and ping him with the AP2. If he has no tanks and you have railguns, ironically it may be most efficient to use them versus his termies, seeing as they have the highest single model points cost in his army.
twinlink the plasma. have 2 of 'em shas'el. this is the best advice possible for what to take. in order of what to do: shoot them? you'll get the hang of it.Originally Posted by Broadside_Pilot
however, it is unfair to tool your army up just to beat him. you should take a balanced list, which would include 1 shas'el with twin plas fus. but if you really want to tool up, then yeah, have more.
Plasma. Its to good. I'd put a plasma rifle on all my suits, even if one of my common opponents wasn't Marines.
If he Deep Strikes them, thats awesome. Remember, you can not assault after a deep strike. He he he. If he deep strikes too far away, he can't assault next turn. Too close, and you can rapid fire plasma, use fusion blasters, and even rapid fire with pulse rifles if he goes after fire warriors. Not to mention risks regarding bad scatter, not arriving on a good turn, etc. I advise you to request deep striking. Tasty Terminators....

Sorry for waiting so long, I can't use the internet consistantly. I generally do not like to pick an army specifically designed to beat a single army, so I like to pick a balanced armylist. That said, i am currently painting most of my models, so I can (somewhat) freely interchange parts (he is a worse offender, last time i played him, he didn't have terminators. He just used paper circles.) and probably get away with it (as much as i dislike it.
In response to Ghandis' post, no he does not use Rhino transports, and he will in all likelyhood deep-strike, as last time he footslogged across the battlefield (all neutralised before they made it within 12").
Just to reply to The Celestials' post, with regards to Kroot, what armaments/squad size have you found efficient in the past? While there are still the other marines about, i assume i occupy myself killing them before the terminators show up.
Finally, the only thing that worries me about the deep-strike is the ability to shoot when arriving. That said, there is a possibility that anything between 5 to 10 terminators (probably show up unloading 2 assault cannons and 3 to 8 storm bolters (NOT good for the Fire Warriors). Also, how would one protect their Ethereal from such deep-striking shenanigans
(sorry about the word, the sentence just worked that way).
Thanks to all who have posted so far, you have provided much help and wisdom.
With Deep striking Terminators, you protect your Etheral by putting him in a squad with Fire Warriors. You then put them into cover and allow trees to be your shield against the assault cannons.
