Welcome to Librarium Online!
so far i have 16 spinegaunts and 16 hormies which makes 240 pts. i am adding 3 warriors and a tyrant to me 500 pt. army. what should i put on them and will they do well in a 500 pt game? i want to turn this into a 1000 pt core force eventually so i need a good base but i need the 500 pts to be playable also. my main opponents are eldar, IG, SM (dark angels) and tyranids.
260 points is a tight squeeze for 3 warriors and a tyrant. Toxin sacs, adrenalin glands and extended carapace is a must for all of them. I recomend making the warriors shooty and giving them enhansed senses and one pair of scything talons. One of them will have a venom cannon and the others can have either deathspitters or devours. For the tyrant, I don't think you have enough points to give a big gun, so you may have to settle for something like TL devour and a pair of scything talons. Giving him 2 ST's is not a bad idea either (It's also cheaper), but this is not to my taste. If he does get a ranged bioweapon, give him enhansed senses. This may be over the 260 pt mark. If you need to remove anything, I would start with the WS adrenaline glands.
For a 500 point game I would chose one or the other, sorrey but that is too expensive. I give my warriors rending claws, scything talons, ws adrenal glands, I adrenal glands, toxin sacs, extended caraprace, leaping, and flesh hooks. I have 3 and they come out to around 135 pts. That would bring you up to 375, a very small squeeze for a tyrant. The tyrant would fill more space and would be absolutely devestating in such a small game so I would pick it and hook it up for cc and give it flying. That will come out to around 217 pts with wings, 2 pairs of scything talons, acid maw, both adrenal glands, flesh hooks toxin sacs, toxic miasma, and warp field or warp blast. That leaves you with only 43 points to fill out which I suggest just giving the hormies adrenal glands (I) or putting in some rippers.

Use your warriors as the HQ and put the points into some staelers if you can get some.
Well he might not have the stealers, I was just suggesting a way to make a good list, not to learn about limits, the way the game works, or how to use specific stratigies. I'm sorrey but if people ask what to use, I ussually tell how to win with it. Not trying to be rude or anything.

Stick with the warriors and make them CC beasts. Then back them up with horms/stealers.
although he can make a sort of cheap list, it sounds like he's got some sound competition and what does it matter if he's got a good army list. space marines aren't going to go down easy at 500 points and although the tyrant will destroy everything, let the dude have some fun. it'll make his opponenets better players if they can beat it, and he can still learn how to use basic tyranid tactics. i mean come on he's just starting out.
I think you could mount an arguement that a decent size brood of warriors for games of that level may be a perfectly rational option compared to a hive tyrant. I use 5 warriors with 4 deathspitters and a vennom cannon at 600 points for a local league and im doing ok. When you get lucky you can put over ten wounds on a squad of marines in one round of shooting, or wipe out a hoarde squad.
wow... 200 some odd points for a tyrant... and 3 warriors..... for me 250 ish pts equals a tyranid(i have issues, im trying to cut back on it some....)
