Welcome to Librarium Online!
I created this army list as a mod of the standard Tau list. I would like some feed back on it and any criticism will be greatly welcomed. Feel free to message me if you want or you can just reply. Thanx!
This army list is actually really simple. It is basically just like the regular army list but with six changes. First, the following troops are forbidden: Fire Warrior Teams, Kroot Carnivore Squads, Ethereals, Pathfinders, Kroot Hound Packs, and Krootoxes. Second, Crisis teams and Stealth suit teams are moved to Troops choices. Third, there are five new units: XV27 Rangefinder Teams, XV16 Heavy Stealth Teams, XV6 Crisis Battlesuit Shas’vre Teams, Firefish Gunships and Kroot Gunships. Fourth, the squad limit for battlesuit teams is expanded to four battlesuits per squad. This also applies to Broadsides and Stealth suits. Fifth, you may take Devilfish Troop Transports for your battlesuit squads, this will be explained later. Finally, you must have at least 1 Crisis Battlesuit Unit.
The first new unit is the XV27 Rangefinder Team. These are just like regular suits but one of their hard points is taken by a markerlight and each suit costs 45 points before the other hard points are filled. All the rest of the rules for battlesuit teams apply to this unit. They are also placed in the fast attack category.
The second new unit is the XV16 Heavy Stealth Team. These are placed in the elites section and are just like basic stealth suits but have fusion blasters instead of burst cannons. They also cost 40 points.
The third new unit is the XV8 Crisis Battlesuit Shas’vre Team. These units are simply the commander’s bodyguard but are taken as an elites choice and have a 0-1 unit limit.
The fourth new unit is the Firefish gunship. This tank is built around the Devilfish chassis with added firepower and no troop transport capability. In addition to the burst cannon, this ship has two smart missile systems. It still has the drone upgrade but now costs 110 points. This variant has no troop transport capability as the troop compartment is used for power supply and ammunition storage for the additional guns. This vehicle is in the Troops section.
The fifth new unit is the Kroot Gunship. This is a vehicle that is employed by the Kroot. The Tau provided and anti-grav system to the Kroot for this unique vehicle. It is a skimmer tank and it is open-topped. It has front armor 12, side armor 11 and rear armor 10. It has 3 mounted Kroot Guns, one facing forward, one facing to the right, and one facing to the left. It also has 10-20 Kroot Passengers. Kroot Passengers are Kroot Carnivores that ride on the Kroot Gunship. They may not disembark, though they fire as though they are passengers in a transport vehicle. They may not have a Shaper, which means that they cannot get the 6+ armor save. Each additional Kroot Passenger past 10 costs 6 pts. There is a chance that an enemy shot may hit a Kroot Passenger. If a hit is scored on the Kroot Gunship, then roll a D6. If there are more than 10 Kroot Passengers then one is hit on a roll of 4+. If there are less than 10, then one is hit on a 5+. If there are no Kroot Passengers left then all hits are allocated to the Gunship itself. The Kroot Passengers also allow the Kroot Gunship to fight in close combat. Note: only 10 Kroot Passengers may ever fight in close combat at any time. There are three ways that a Kroot Gunship can enter close combat. One, if the enemy charges the Kroot Gunship. Two, if the Kroot Gunship causes tank shock then the enemy can opt to initiate close combat. Third, the Kroot Gunship can choose to charge into close combat. In that situation, the Kroot Passengers would get +1 attack. The enemy of a Kroot Gunship in close combat may choose to allocate any attacks to the passengers or the Gunship itself. In close combat all Kroot Passengers count as having 5+ armor saves reflecting the fact that there is plenty of nice, tough Gunship to duck behind! The mounted Kroot Guns are manned by the crew of the Gunship so even if there are no passengers left then the Kroot Guns may still fire as normal. All in all, with 10 passengers, the Kroot Gunship costs 175 pts.
The devilfish transport may now be used to transport your battlesuit squads but under one conditions: the squad size is three models or under with drones counting as half of a model (for example if you had three suits and one drone that would be three and one half models and therefore could not take a transport. Also Stealth teams and Broadside teams may not have a devilfish transport.
I think you should ask a mod to move this to rules development.
Thanks! I think. Does that mean that you like it?
Interesting ideas. But the point costs for this kind of army would be atrocious. And denying certain types of units like Fire Warriors and Ethereals....well, I dunno about that.
XV-27. Seems okay, but Forge World already has a suit like this. (XV-84 I believe)
I'm not diggin the Heavy Stealth teams. Unless you are changing the points values and ruleset fromt eh current stealth team, the ones you suggested are waaaay overpowered. Inflitrating squads that can jump -shoot-jump with six fusion blasters at 180 points?
I don't really understand what's so differant about the 'vre bodyguard team except that they are all 'vres which, really isn't that good.
The Firefish? Meh. Seems pretty bland to me. The Devilfish chassis seems a bit big for that role, maybe a tetra chassis. And 110 points for one? Screw that. I'd just big a Deathrain suit with the ability to jump over terrain, then shoot, then jump back instead of non-LOS firing.
I like the Kroot Gunship. I was thinking of something like this for my Kroot Merc force. Essentially it's a Kroot Battlewagon. I understand how you are trying to work it into your "Tau Armored Force", with those special rules, but it just doesn't fit. Imagine a small, futuristic fleet of fearsome Armored Suits and sleek Gunships with a Kroot Party-mobile rollin up next to them with music blaring and drunk Kroot vomiting off the side. Okay, maybe I took it too far, but you get the point.
EDIT: Don't move it. This is a Tau specific thread. You'll get a bunch of folks jumping in saying how the Tau players do nothing but complain and whine.
ya you're right, the bodyguard team is kinda cheesy, i was just trying to get more Elites choices.
good point about the Heavy Stealth teams being too points-light. I'll revise that.
I know that the Kroot Gunship doesn't relly fit in but it supports the Kroot-happy players (not like myself) and give CC support.
The Firefish is a bland name i know. I wracked my brain for a long time trying to think of a name and that's the only one that i came up with, any name suggestions would be nice
I meant that the whole model idea was bland for the Firefish. It's just a burst cannon with two sms.
What is the Kroot Gunship? Heavy? By removing all those models we can field(PathF, FW, etc) you are futher removing your Army from CC, so having the Kroot there for CC support in a Gunship seems a moot point. It's your army though, run with it.
Record as of 26 December for my Static Tau Cadre.
10 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw.
Last game: Victory over Necron in a 600 point "kill em all" that lasted til turn 10 ending with a phase out.
well for the armored tau army list im working on, and will hopefully be submitting to Chapter Approved (wish me luck) i made stealth suits troops, crisis- troops if ui only elite if vre only, battlesuits are hs, devilfishes with pathfinders are FA, hammerheads are troops, devilfishes with firewarriors are troops or FA, drones are troops, and i made up a whole bunch of new vehicles, and a very special conversion which i doubt i will finish by the time of CA '05 to be the ultimate HQ or HS choice, prolly HS but HQ under certain conditions....
I LOVE the kroot gunship.
Would the XV27 be the same at the new suits on forgeworld, i don't have the codex but i think so.
The other stuff is kinnda dull and as a static player I would NEVER remove the fire warriors besides they needed one squad fielded minimun for the farsight and normal codex so why would yours be any different as for fluff...well that's not my strong point.
crisis suits troops
thats no longer the same army!
If your local gaming buddies let u play this list cool, but as for wishing you luck on getting CA i just cant do that.
sorry, forgot to add i feel the Mech Tech amies are already armoured enough IMO.
i don,t play mech as I dont have the develfish for it but am strongly considering it as it seems to do some damage.
