so iv'e got my tyranid core ready to go and i cant wait to play someone. but does anyone have actual experience with the new edition (how has it changed, what works). try to keep from stating the obvious, like i think we all know that the hive tyrant is still a valid choice. im wondering more like, are hormagaunts worth the points, do genestealers stay alive long enough to get into cc if they dont infiltrate? do raveners EVER get into cc?
Stealers get into CC if you hug cover. they live longer now since they can save agianst bolter fire but if 2 tactical squads decide to hate on you, you're still screwed.
Horms with just 1 upgrade is def worth the points, can';t reallky hug cover with such large broods tho...
Raveners always get into assault (at least mine do). Again, cover cover cover. always force them do draw LOS on the more worthless things.
Not much has changed between 3rd and 4th strat wise. the swarm/wave thing still works wonders. the major changes are that stealers are now more resilient and can fleet and horms now have the ability to hit marines on a 3+. biovores now use smaller blasts but are more accurate. bio-acid is more worthwile and far less random. 2W bugs can no longer get insta-splatted and the fex got bigger. Use these to your advantage (especially the 2W bit).

The thing I find with new edition Nids, is it's much more about Synapse webbing. With the lack of Hive Nodes, a badly deployed Synapse web can cause your army to collapse.
