Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey there. I'm not really a serious DE collector but I have the Warriors from 40k 3rd Edition box plus some I got from a mate who had some he didn't want.
So I currently have about 40 warriors, including a healthy scattering of Splinter Cannons, and an Archon.
I was just looking for something to add to the army to make them a little more interesting when using them in the odd battles I do.
I was thinking maybe a raider, or a squad of something with some assault power.
I don't really know the DE army very well, as they normally get used by my brother when he plays against my Ultramarines. Any suggestions?
You need to get a couple of dark lances, you can convert them from splinter cannons. After granting some heavy power you should get more warriors, around 60 are ok.
After that get raiders, 2 or 3, then wyches and a talos.
Read this forum and get an idea of what kind of army you want to play.
Wyches and raiders are your friend
Well I don't plan on making it a huge army because I still sink most of my money into my Ultramarines.
But by the sound of it a raider (maybe 2 after I have more money) would be a good idea, plus some Dark Lances for my Warriors and maybe a squad of Wyches for some CQC power.
Dark Lances, as a top priority. Splinter Cannons and Splinter Rifles have little to no ability to take down a vehicle, and depending upon the size of your match, you might need to take down a vehicle (or big creature!). How big of a game are you thinking about playing?Originally Posted by chrispcarter

Raiders aren't necessarily mandatory, but very good, especially for your Archon/future Wyches, who are very, very nasty in CC. That Archon, if tooled up right, strikes fear into any 40k player who doesn't have an ultra CC-tooled HQ that might stand up to the Archon. 2+ Inv. save? RUN!!!
DE are very, very different than Ultra Marines and if you try to play using a Space Marine mindset, you will lose. The things you need to realize:
1) A DE Warrior can not, I repeat not, take the beating of a Space Marine.
2) A Raider can get shot down by a Bolter. And is open-topped.
3) A Splinter Rifle is not a Bolter! It can't shoot down them weak tanks.
4) Speed is your most valuable ally. NOT TOUGHNESS.
5) If you have access to very cheap, pretty sweet Heavy Weapons...why don't you take them?
6) As attractive as all the neat "elite" units are, don't ever overlook the common DE Warrior.
7) If tooled correctly, the Archon gives you, effectively, a CC madman.
Good luck with your DE!
I agree, my retinue took out a deep-striking terminator squad of 6 so yes, archons and incubi are definately cc madmen, but if you need even more get a Dhrazar or any other special char. Those would add to your cc.
I, personally, find Incubi and Drazhar (as cool as he is) to be a huge point sink. Grab a retinue of Incubi when you have a higher points value for your army, but always leave Drazhar at home unless you really, really have the spare points. You can get three plus some Incubi for just the price of Drazhar.Originally Posted by Big Willie
Just joining the Archon up with a couple Incubi/Warriors, or even throwing him/er into a Wyche squad will do nearly just as good with that. Plus, once you start adding special characters, your army starts losing its originality. ^_^
ya.. ur right bout Dhrazar, but like you said i needed like 90 points nd we were playin a no heavy support battle, so i decided to use dhrazar, i would have put in about 3 more incubi but i used the points for reaver jetbikes.
How are incubi a point sink? All you are paying for is the wargear and nothing else. that means a free ubered up warrior. Now why wouldnt you take it?
I have tested incubi a few times and they are really a point sink. I think that more than 3-4 incubi and 2-1 warriors are too much at 1500.
Sure that they slaughter power armoured troops and terminators but a wych squad can do it too and it's far cheaper and given that they can fleet they can jump faster from combat to combat. I think that they are an overall better assault squad. (Just my opinion)
