I'm sorta a nub with DE but I have been playing warhammer for 2 years, my first army I ever started was DE, but then i descoverd more powerful armies (Tau, and Tyranids) I just played my friend with DE and had a pretty good plan down and used my number of shots to my advantage and I held out for a long time but, our game is'nt finished so, i gues i'll tell you the outcome of the battle. I came back to DE because i like their number of shots, their BS, and their unique style of play. But, I still have a few questions about Playing DE against Space Marines or Chaos Space Marines.
So, here they are...
If raiders play a big part in getting you troops and wyches where you need them, how do you protect them from these armies if the standard troop weapon can destroy the viechle!?!?
Would you put hellions and reaver jetbikes together to flank the enemy (Even though bolters pose a threat to both of them) or would you spread them apart to seek out more possible threats.
Would a Ravenger and a squad of scourges be enough support to take on a SM or Chaos SM army, or would you need to upgrade your splinter cannons to Dark Lances, Shredders, ect. Because i know hov much my friends love yo use land raiders and defilers... those little buggers...
Should I stock up on warriors or ge 2 squads of like 15 to save points?
Those are my questions, Thanks
Unless you field a Raider parking lot like I do, there should be enough terrain on the board (25%) to hide Raiders to get them where they need to be. You can always go with a WWP army to keep your Raiders from getting hammered and open it far enough forward so your hard hitters come straight out and into HtH.
As far as the Hellions and Reavers go, I'd take one or the other but not both in the same list. They are too expensive points wise. I only use Hellions when I take my Wych Cult out or my Lord on a skyboard. Also have one upgraded with a Blaster to catch that IC in the open. Move so it is the closest mini and fire away. For Reavers, I use them in 1 of 2 roles; 5-6 with 2 Blasters for Tank hunting or a squad of 7-8 with a Succubus for HtH punch.
Scourges against Power Armor are wasted points. You can get twice the number of Warriors. Splinter Cannons won't get you the kills to make back their points and DLs can't be fired on the move. Against these guys 3 Disintegrator Ravagers are a better investment.
With V4 and the template centered over a head rule Shredders won't do anything against SMs and Chaos either. I'll use them against bugs or IG but that is about it.
Land Raiders are no match against DLS as they drop the AV 14 to 12. Defilers are a problem. If he gave it Indirect Fire, get within 36" of him and he can't drop pie plates on you. If he didn't, stay out of LOS and he can't shoot you or will need to move. Again a DL shot will bring it down.
i prefer webway portals delivered by my haemonculi in raiders with their grotesque retinues. the grotesques are good to not die when the raider is downed and helps to push back anyone trying to get close to the portal. i am building a coven/kabal army so i don't use wyches or anything like that...heh, you could even try a twenty man/woman wyche squad coming out of a portal. hahaha, i just thought of that....that would be awsome!!! wow, heh....later
Give us a battle report when its done.
AGainst land raiders and defilers you have the dark lance, the more amrour they field the more you should smile as you should ahve plenty of warriors with lances and blasters.
Ravagers destroy marines, get it a ngihtshield and 3 Dissies and away you go.
I would say hellions are pointless with the 4th ed upsate especially against power armour.
Reavers are nice bikes, I would suggest a squad 5-8 with 2 blasters and a suc with power weapon to take out tac/dev squads.
I owuld suggest getting wyches (2x (Raider, 5 Wyches, Wyche Weapons, Suc, Ago)) supported by assaulty boat warriors (Raider squad, Blaster, Splinter Cannon, Sybarite, Agoniser) and having them come out of a portal carried by an IC accompanied by an assaulty foot squad (15-20 warriors, 2 SC's, S Blasters, syb, ago). Allowing you to assault with impunity, add in a couple of sniper squads (10 warriors 2 DL) and ravager or two and away you go anti armour, anti troop, hand to hand, shooting, you can do it all.
I have to say though:
but then i descoverd more powerful armies (Tau, and Tyranids)
I would like to play you at some point and demonstrate why Tau and Tyranids are in no way more powerful than DE.
That is very true, I think DE are alot better then most people portray them to be.I would like to play you at some point and demonstrate why Tau and Tyranids are in no way more powerful than DE.
ya but i think DE is a really hard army to start out with, i think you need a lot of stratagey for them, so I waited till' i got more experience so now i'm Dark Eldar.
Well I think there is no best army or worst one, I hate that kind of topics DE can be awesome or a very bad army, same happens with Tau and Tyranids.
What is real here is that u need to make better tactics with DE because u don't have the a. saves of Tau or the numbers of tyranids.
Do you want a "fair" DE list or a "nasty" one?
I'll give you a little hint.
Fill your heavy slots of Ravagers and watch his marines in their precious power armour get slaughtered like sheep.
"And whoever wants to be a creator in good and evil, must first be an annihilator and break values. Thus the highest evil belongs to the greatest goodness: but this is--being creative."

Dude, I'd love to play against a list like that. I think a "fair" list could (and should) double as a "nasty" list. I could see my army (Raven Guard) having trouble against this. The only vehicles I ever take are Land Speeders and the occasional Dreadnought.Originally Posted by Infrazael Draennonssraav
Big Willie, I'd like to offer a bit of advice from someone who plays as the enemy. I tend to use my Assault Marines to engage rank-and-file and lesser assault troops. Against Dark Eldar, I could have as few as two squads like that against me. The majority of your assault troops will kill me if I find myself in close combat against them, regardless of any special rules the squad has. As mobile as a Marine army can get, Dark Eldar have can run rings around us on a bad day. Use Wyches against enemy close combat specialists (e.g. Terminators or Assault Marines w/Furious Charge), dark lance-armed squads to make a mockery of our armor, Ravagers with three disintegrators to melt our power armor (or in my case, Scout armor as well), and your Lord to kill the Marine Leader. With careful playing, you can engage where and when you want, under the terms you want.
The units you'll want to be aware of are Land Speeder Tornadoes, Assault Cannon Dreadnoughts, Assault Cannon Terminators, and anything that can infiltrate heavy bolters. These can chew through both your infantry and your vehicles. Neutralize them quickly and early.
Dark Eldar are a very potent army, due in part to the fact that you never really know what to expect from them. They are no less powerful than any other army, but I agree that the models are downright ugly.
