ok quick question since in cant seem to find this in the rule book
if im shooting sporemines at say a leman russ i first place a sporemine where im intending to shoot, in this case right on the top of the leman russ
i then scatter it
if i roll a hit on the scatter die and it hits the top fo the leman...what armor facing does it hit? can i place it behind the leman to get that?
one final quesiton...is it possible to shoot sporemines into an empty space on a table or something...since unline normal artilery they dont explode but just drift around?
If you hit the tank directy, on the turn you shot, use the armor value for the side facing the biovore, as you would for a barrage when the middle of the blast maker is over the vehicle. If you shot and it scattered to right behind the vehicle, then you set it off with a synpse creature or it drifted into the vehicle next turn use the rear armor. I'm not sure if you would halve the strength however.
It's not very clear but i would say yes just check range and scatter, though i'd check with your opponent before the game.
The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed
as for fireing them into open spaces i dont think so as you can buy sporemine clusters to land where you want.
also the biovore attack acts like a shooting attack and they normaly need targets to work :/
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.

thats incorrect, you can place a spore mine anywhere within 48" regardless of if there is a target thare or not. they become like a mine field. whirlwind castillian mines dont need a target to be shot as they create a challenge for the opposing armies. as do spore mines. I think they are one of the most versatile parts of the nid army, from moveable mine fields, to vehicle hunters, to trop killers. Add in the posibilities of spore clusters and the nid army can take on a whole new threat to the opposition.
That's how it used to be. Any rules that allowed that have been removed. The biovore isn't even a guess wepon anymore. You fire it according to the barrage rules, so you cannot just put it in empty space anymore.
I don't think biovores were ever a guess weapon, (old rules say that you may place it anywhere). Still, I think most ppl underestimate the new biovore. If you get 3 of them with bioacid, any direct hits you get will mean some very unhappy things that don't get armor saves. Bio-acid isn't a random flamer templet anymore so the biggest disadvantage it had is gone.
And barrages cause pinning as an added bonus.
Dreams give us a vision of a world unlike any we have seen. They present us with a glimpse of a better life; a goal to aspire to, and in the face of insurmountable odds, they provide us with the power to overcome, to live on, and to succeed where we would have otherwise failed.
The biovore and spore mine rules were never guess weapons. This was clarified numerable times by GW.
I understand where you get the reading of barrage from, but I read the line "towards the enemy" as meaning in the direction not having to be AT the enemy. I tihnk it is talking about how the spore mine explosions work not necessarily the targeting of them, I may be wrong, but that is my reading of it.
Well, technically they were, but not in any codex. Anyone remember the 3rd Ed Rulebook's listing for Tyranids?Originally Posted by Captin Moroni
Those were the best biovore stats I ever got to play with.
page 28 of the codex, "These are fired as barrage weapons". I think that clearly means "go to the rule book and follow the barrage rules." Then under detonation the mines explode as a barrage. I see clusters as being fired as barrage and exploding as barrage.
It says "fired as a barrage" so no, no more targetting empty space. No big deal. Its a give and take.
Pretty sure they were Guess Weapons in 3rd edition.
Fast Attack choice Spore Mine Clusters, however, would be able to come down anywhere.
