I was reading the assault rules and I found a fairly obscure rule about sweeping advances that I'd never heard of and no one has ever used in a game with me.
"If the falling back unit no longer has any models in base contact with the victor, the victors do not get a chance to sweeping advance but may still consolidate" pg. 43
Basically this means that if my stealers do their job and kill enough tau, necrons, SM, or whatever and my opponent chooses to remove models in base contact, I don't get to use my nice high initiative to wipe out his unit if they flee.
Does anyone here ever use this rule?
The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed
Yep, remember that it can be used as Your advantage.
Green Tide will consume You all!
Yes, when I remember it. . .Originally Posted by Bugs_n_Orks
Yes. If you are a weak HtH army (Tau), and you get assault by an uber HtH unit (Genestealers) you can use this rule to remove yourself from the combat. The idea is that you suffer enough wounds to lose everyone in Base to Base and still have enough troops left so when you flee you can rally back up and then shoot the piss out of the unit that assaulted you.
You can also use this to strand that HtH specialist unit out in the open, rather than leave them locked in CC.
Gyauayuayuayua! Ja! Ve vill crush da little girly men in deir little girl men awrmor! Ve vill see owur enemies driven befowur us, und hear da lahmentaytions of deir wemen. -Arnoldunit Schwarzenecronegger; when questioned about the impending doom he would rain down upon the heads of his doomed enemies.
All the more reason to take more small broods as opposed to large ones.
I've had bad experiences with this rule. My stealers smash into a tactical squad, killing 7 of them and completely wiping out the kill zone. The other guy fails his leadership and runs, I can't catch up... Right, lets see: 8 stealers + 12 Bolters + 1 Assault Cannon = ? Anyone?
Dreams give us a vision of a world unlike any we have seen. They present us with a glimpse of a better life; a goal to aspire to, and in the face of insurmountable odds, they provide us with the power to overcome, to live on, and to succeed where we would have otherwise failed.
The last game i played my broodlord got stranded like that and got shot by a railgun.
I have known Tau to use this tactic to great affect. They use a bunch of Crisis suits with drones deployed in a "T" formation, (the base of the T is the suits, the stem is the drones). You charge and hit, (and mangle), a couple of drones, all of a sudden you are sitting just out of distance of the crisis suits. Can you say "uh oh"?

Remember that since he's under the effect of his own Synapse ability, he can't be insta-killed by that.Originally Posted by Catachan Devil

I love fielding 10,000 points per-player. DECOS all the way baby.
