Hi I'm recently going to play against an biel-tan army. I play a Black templar army and I'm going to use a new tactic. this tactic is based on deep striking and the new drop pods. but as you can guess the wraithlords can be a real pain in the ass. so I was wondering if you could tell me what to do against them except from the fact you must use powerfists.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
Wraithlords are not as hard to kill in 4th edition. Most Space Marine chapters have access to Assualt cannons which are a great way around their high toughness. People shouldn't be so afraid of the Wraithlords these days.
That's considered spamming so please take it out someone.
Yeah, assault cannons are the best way to deal with WL's but since you say you're drop podding most of your army, that does limit you in the number you can have.
And above all else, the powerfists do really help against them but then again they really help against everything.
Dreams give us a vision of a world unlike any we have seen. They present us with a glimpse of a better life; a goal to aspire to, and in the face of insurmountable odds, they provide us with the power to overcome, to live on, and to succeed where we would have otherwise failed.
if your desperate to kill a wraithlord you could do it in a turn statistically with 9 lascannon shots at bs4 but dice dont always follow statistics it could take more or less remember ap3 or less guns ignore its armour save but getting past t8 is hard plus they can benefit from cove. sniper rifles do aswel against wraithlords as against 3 marines cos toughness isnt an issue only the 3+ save. there are some simple ways to kill a wraithlord but it takes quite a bit of firepower oh and weapons that rend can work i dont know marines too well apart from my eldar have never lost to them yet. if you see dark reapers kill them quick or they will mess your marines up cos dark reapers are like custom built to kill marines
well i think that the missile launcher has proved to be a good weapon to take down a WL. but ass they already mentioned assault cannon is the best way.
Go all assaulty on his a$$. Not familiar with any BT special rules, but as mentioned, assault cannons, lascannons, missile launchers, plasma pistols, plasma guns, melta guns, heavy bolters, whirlwinds, and powerfists will kill wraithlords (some better than others). My recommendation is to ignore the WL until you've killed his other stuff. A powerfist on a sargent with charge and CCW will put the hurt on the wraithlord, for much cheaper pts to model ratio.
As to the drop poding, I'd avoid it if your space marines. If he's beil tan than he's banking on getting into cc with you. I'd stand back on the far table edge and let loose with missiles, heavy bolters, assault cannons, and lascannons until he brings it to you. You could easily decimate him. But, if you choose to play the typical marine, take it to him and all, go jump troops and a few rhinos for some good tank shock action.
the black templar are meaned to get in close combat and my list is customised for it. I don't have heavy weapons only a predator with lascannons. I have 2 powerfists in one assault squad. we play missions so is it a good idea to ignore the WL or not. he is also fan of bansees and scorpions and farseers with retinue on steroides.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
Fluff or not Banshees and Scorpians are smoe the biggest CCers there are, and he has an army of them. I would listen to the guy that said sit back and shoot. If you feel the need to be fluffy, just say it a BT get ambushed/counterattack thing.
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
Personally I wouldn't concentrate one them, unless they are the bulk of his army.
Deepstrike dreads with assault cannons via drop pod...if You get absolutely out of options a DS'ed term squad with dual assault cannons would probably mess him up real nice...If nothing else and you want to last ditch, there's no way he'd escape a termy charge with the thing left alive....
Might I suggest taking a LRC?
I know they're pretty expensive...and a huge target...but most things in an eldar army can't handle 6tl bolter shots + 4tl assault cannon rounds.. It'd make them have to re-consider their attacks. Since most of your forces would be deploying via drop, just attempt to tie up his lances and move in with the LRC....When it enevitably gets there it can easily mop up, even if your forces are mostly shattered.
One brightlance (85 pts on a vyper) for an easy kill of 200+ pts, is not a good idea for a LRC. Against anyone else, perhaps, but eldar make armour 14 way too easy (1/2 hit (or 2/3 if ulthwe strike force) and 1/2 glance or penetrate) meaning one in four shots will kill your LRC at range before you can retaliate. As I said before, you don't want to be drop podding termies to him, as this just cuts down the amount of time his troops will be in the open, meaning bigger CC god squads to kill your termie point sinks.Originally Posted by Rook
The one way that DP's will work against him is if you have a large enough table and can isolate a squad of his, without fear of getting dragging into cc next turn (at least 18" away from other units).
Good luck no matter how you play it=)
