Welcome to Librarium Online!
A friend of mine is thinking of getting into Tau, he's concerned with transporting his figures, however. I turned him on to Army Transport(link) for regular figures but I didn't have any ideas for the tanks.
How do you folks transport your tanks safely and easily? Toolboxes or some such?
"I have plenty of talent and vision; I just don't give a f..."
I use a lunchbox but I wouldn't call it safe.
There once was a Lord named Vlad,
Who's fighting skillz really were mad.
He killed and he maimed,
He spilled blood in Khorne's name.
And the fact that he's legal makes me glad
(special thanks to Uriel Zarium for the last line/touching it up)
Yeah, I'm interested in this sort of info too. Does everyone just buy a box or make their own? I read that box makign article on the sight...
I just use a shoe box with some bubble wrap inside for transportation. It's pretty basic but if you're careful with it and keep it upright you shouldn't have a problem.
I use a couple of plastic cases that used to have electric razors in them. With some foam. Also I have magnetized all the easily breakable bits and I take them off so I can pack them tightly together in the cases.
Here's my home-made creation. I've glued washers on the bottoms of all the bases and use magnetic sheeting to hold the minis in place. The sheeting is glued to trays so I can pull the trays out, place the minis on them, and then put the trays back on the shelves. As an added bonus, the washers make the minis less likely to get knocked over on the tabletop and help them balance on steep slopes.
For the vehicles, I've glued small lengths of 1/2" wide magnetic strip to the landing pads which mate with other magnets glued to the shelves of the case.
This costs ~$15 in wood, ~$15 in hardware, ~15 in magnets. It's not much cheaper than a GW case and requires more work to assemble, but has the nice bonus that I can fit ~3000 pts in one case and can use it as a seat at tournaments if they're short on chairs.
I use a bunch of gun cases that I got at Wally World. They are double depth pistol cases made by Plano. I paid $10 each for them and each will hold about 100 minis (depending on the minis) or 5-6 tanks. For the tanks you can either make cutouts in the center foam piece or just remove it. The Top and bottom foam pieces press on the tank enough to keep it from moving. For the minis, flip over the center piece of foam so the flat side is facing up and cut slits in it to slide the edge of the models' bases into. Do the same for the bottom layer. Gives you 2 levels to put minis in and keeps them both in place and well protected. I'll post a few pics if I get around to it.
Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity.
Currently i've got mine in my pockets. The tanks can take alot of damage from my experience. But the one I have was bought second hand and looks really bad (meaning to take off paint and redo). As for transportation...those little gift boxes people buy are great i've got one that fits my tank perfectly.
OMG Tonka that r0xx0rs!
Must get washrings for bases...
