I ask because just about every Necron I've seen is primed black, based black, dry brushed metal, coated metal, drybrushed metal, and detailed metal.
Yet the ones in the latest codex, under "ceramics" look AWESOME!
It says they were given a gloss varnish, what exactly is that?
Anyway, how do you paint your Necrons?
Standard "ancient" metal, sweet fresh plastic-e, or something new or in-between?
I prime mine white, then paint them Mithril Silver. I give them a slight purple ink wash. Their eyes are liche purple with a Warlock purple highlight. The chest emblam is liche with shining gold higlights. For the green rod I prime that white then paint it with a 50/50 liche purple/skull white mix, then paint "lightning" effect on in liche purple. Different necron symbols painted on the shoulder pads for each unit. In my gallery is a pic of my foot lord, if you want to check him out.
Dude...those conversions are awesome...
Not so sure about the purple energy chambers or whatever they are called, but whatever works for you.
I can see it now...
"Dude, your necrons are purple..."
"Dude, your space marines are dead."
And then they were.
I prime mine black and then paint them gold and white. Anything that looks like ceramic plating (shoulder blades, hip joints, Destroyer hover assembly armor) gets painted a smooth white and any transfers I use get put here. The rest of the figures is painted from Dwarf bronze to Shining Gold to Burnished Gold. I then pick out tubing and wires and bayonettes in Mithril Silver and DarkAngels-Scorpion green. I leave the Guass rods as is (though if I had known about the different color plastic rods you can order, they so would have been blue). The raised marks on their heads and chests, as well as their eyes, are picked out in lightened Scorpion Green.
The only real color I have are on my 3 Lords and my Deceiver. The Deceiver's sash is painted purple, since that was classically the color of royalty and high ranking members of the Catholic church. I have 2 foot Lords and 1 Destroyer Lord. 1 foot Lord and the DLord have Scab red (cloak and hover assembly armor) lightened with white/Scarab red highlights. The second foot Lord has a blue cloak (Regal I think) highlighted with Regal/Ice blue mixes.
All the bases are done in a light brown and flocked with sand/rocks.

My Necrons are painted mithril silver w/ brass joints, spines and guns. I kept the rods green so the eyes and tubing are all painted green. Three colors, nice and simple but very bright and intimidating. I have a few "repairing" warriors but the biggest conversions are my destroyers. I thought the spider lord in the catalog was so cool i put legs on all my destroyers, lord, and heavies. The legs are painted brass like the joints w/ silver strips. they look awsome! Once people see them its hard to like the regular ones. All the other necron players at my local shop hate it because noobs and people who don't play ask them why they didn't put the legs on thiers! is usually thier reaction.
If I can get someone who knows what they are doing to help me I will post pics in future.
Only bad thing was for 12 sets of legs it was $96.
If anyone else has done this please let me know.
i do the scheme in the rulebook, painting a necron patrol. only i paint the joint chainmail insteady of bronze.

I want everyone to remeber why they need us!
mine are boltgun metal, inked black, drybrushed boltgun. but the shoulders/raised armour is dark angels green (followed by another coat when the first had dried - gives an even look), eyes are blood red and tubing is... snot green? i cant remember every paint...
ahh the glory of my unplayed 2000 point necron army! at least i can say its completely undefeated...
Apathy is its own reward...
Woah, that's 96 bucks of pure dedication right there...Originally Posted by Phase Out
