Welcome to Librarium Online!
Using either Death Skullz or Blood Axes, it should be possible to make a nearly fully mechanized Ork army that's tougher than the KOS.
I particularly love the idea of 2 BurnaBoyz mobs with 2 burnas each in Rhinos. Drive up 12" (tank shocking infantry into a tight pack if possible), flame through the hatches, bail out and assault next turn. Put a Demolisher with turbo-boosta and red paint between them. A mekboy with KFF with each of the Burnas should be enough to cover the Demolisher as well as their own Rhinos.
Toss a Warboss and nobs and maybe a Painboss with cyborks into Wartrukks, and hide them behind the Rhinos and Demolisher to block LOS, and you've got a pretty impressive mechanized army.
As a last idea, you could stick 5 of the mandatory Kommandos or Lootas in a Chimera along with a Mekboy w. KFF. Give the Chimera two heavy flamers, 10 point armour, and turbo-boostas. Firing mounted lasguns seems like a much better use of lootas than having 4 of them sit around watching the fifth firing a mortar.
What do you think, folks? Aside from the monetary cost of all the vehicles, I love this as an army concept.

Well, it would be... interesting but it wouldn't be neary as good as a KOS. First off, if you are making lootas and using the transport options (rhinos, chimeras, etc.) they have to be armed like the squad that would normall get the transport (I am pretty sure about this,) so you wouldn't be able to get a burna, rokkit, or big shoota, but you could get a heavy bolter, flamer, etc. The orks are an assault army, and wasting an additional 20 pts or so on getting a rhino over a trukk when the trukk is open topped and faster. You could give it a shot, but if you tried out that stunt against marines, you probably would fail the tank shock, the burna would kill a couple marines, they would shoot / power fist the transport until it blows up (shouldn't be too hard.) Now a deathskulls list with tons of tanks would be sweet.
Rather than using the loota tactical squad transport option, I was thinking of using a single Looted Vehicle unit of two Rhinos. Using the Death Skullz or Blood Axes would allow you to also put in a Demolisher or two in a large list, but for a small army you could just use standard Ork rules.
The idea is a slower but significantly tougher mechanized army than the KOS. The Rhinos effectively have 2 more points of armour compared to the Wartrukks, and you can take two squads of Burnas with mekboys and KFF over the 1 squad of Burnas allowed in the KOS, allowing for more KFF coverage.
I'll put up a sample 750 point army in the army lists section to show what I mean.
People often undermind how good we have it for trukks. IMO trukks are the best transport in the game point for point. Although they are fragile, they are little more than half the cost of a rhino and less than half of a chimera and in my opinion better, only because of the orks assault nature, however.
Well, for the fluff, something like this would be good:
Not sure how many points, or how effective it would be, but the fluff is there.
trucks are good because they are open topped and you can shoot and assault out of them, if you put five flamers in a truck, you can shoot all of them out of it. or if you use a bunch of empty trucks or rhinos to bloc LOS to the trucks.
Too easy to do, but I tried it once, and you'll have to play it in a manner that is quite different fom both normal Orks and the KOS.
The way to do this is to use..................
The Forgeworld 'Looted Rhino' rules. 1 to 3 are a single heavy support choice with no limitations (so you can fill up all 3 slots with them). Looted Rhnos may have Heavy Shootas, Twin Linked Heavy Shootas, Rokkit Launchas or Skorchas.... More expensive than trucks, and slower, but paint them red and turbocharge them. Not sure on the legality of it, but since you can 'bump start' Rhinos, AND you can 'Grot Rigger' start them, they should be really difficult to stop without blowing them into tiny pieces
