Welcome to Librarium Online!
After nosing around a bit, I've managed to track down about 40 warriors for 25 bucks (+10 marines)
Thusly I wanted to know how you guys convert your models so they don't look so...Plain, for lack of a better word. Personally I like their armour, as it gives you lots of things to do (compared to Iron warrior marines *hits head*)
I plan on keeping them as my small 'for fun" force (along with my orks) and mainly having them as things to keep me busy. I plan to feild all of them + my Drachon at any given time, as I am too cheap to buy ravagers....So I have footslogging Dark eldar, so along with the looks of them, I believe I'm going to have to figure out what goes best with their on foot capabilities....40 wounds is a nice amount to have on the board, espescially firing darklances, but the lack of mobility is scary..as the armour's duct tape constitution doesn't hold well vs bolters...
You could convert some of them to be holding trophies. (IE Ork heads, etc.)
There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Splinter rifle's adorned with SM/CSM/Tau heads would be quite fun, as I have various bits left over.
If there's one thing I've noticed about the dark eldar warriors, it's that you can make just about any kind of on-foot model there is in the codex with the help of a few stray bits. A majority of the wych squad I use are actually converted warriors with the aid of a little bit of green stuff and various close-combat arms. Some of the more interesting things I've done involved using the sprue itself and a utility knife to take very small cuts out of it to get thin lines to use as whips, and long shavings to use as loin-clothes. Give it a flamboyant armor color and paint the limbs to look like bare flesh, and you've got yourself a wych.
Of course, wyches aren't the only thing you can get out of the basic warrior sprue. I'm pretty sure if you figured out a clever way to re-work a bunch of the rifles, you could successfully model some mandrakes (though I think they're not entirely useful in battle: "Aha! We were -here- the whole time!" "Oh my god! What're ya gonna do? Throw broken glass at me?").
And don't forget grotesques! One thing I loved to do was take a basic dark eldar warrior with no arms, cut off the shoulder pads, and attach space marine arms to it. Now you don't just have a grotesque; you've got a crazed eldar on some major steroids! Add various blood effects on its hands and mouth; say that it became some savage, unstoppable cannibal after its 'upgrade' at the hands of the Heamonculi.
Then again, given the limited number of warriors you have, you probably won't have much left over after building the compulsory set up. If you're gonna go with foot-slogging, the best choice would be to make two squads of 10-20 warriors, and using the extras to make grotesques and heamonculi to lead them to soak up some of the heavy-weapons fire. One thing I suggest for a theme for the army would be to make them look generally blood-soaked and muddy, especially from the legs down as though they had been trudging through the piled corpses on a battle-field.
Ok, this strategy requires that you buy a raider transport, BUT it will kick ass. You´ll also need some bitz:
1) First, you convert one of your warriors to become a lord; I used the legs, torso and two arms (one holding a splinter pistol, another holding nothing) from the warrior sprues, the helmetless head of a CWE guardian, the whip from some dark elf fantasy dude, and finally I added a cloak from the fantasy chaos warrior accessory sprue. He looks MEAN, and he is unique to my force, which i seriously cool! Experiment with bitz.. its fun.
2) Buy 4 dark lancers, or convert some dark lances from the splinter cannons in the warrior box. I have brought the dark lancers seperately, I thint they look better.
3) This MIGHT work without raiders, but raiders are pretty essential to DE, so perhaps not. Ive made a 500 pts list, that requires you to get only a minimum of stuff, if any at all, but the lack of mobility will not be a boon for you. Consider getting a raider.
+ Splinter Pistol
+ Combat Drugs
+ Shadow Field
+ Plasma Grenades
9 Warrior Reinue
+ 2x Splinter Cannon
+ 2x Dark Lance
+ 2x Dark Lance
+ 2x Splinter Cannons
use the warriors as a raider squad and have teh HQW start with them. This way he can leave the squad when ever he wants. I ussaly push forward in the raiders unload first turn fof then break off with my lord and have her assult with the 12 inch assult range. That way 6 attacks on the charge hitting on 3s wounding on 4s no save = <3
Ok yeh just add trophies on mine i have added a lot more spikes and heads from other armies and a few of them have the heads from the ork box set that has the sawn off human head a few of them are holding them and have them hanging off them. I field 75 warriors and a few other things but i still want more warriors because warriors are heaps good for what points they are.
