Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I was looking over my current CC warriors to see if I could make them any better or cheaper and I noticed a weird technicality about bioplasma, apparently it can be rending.
under bioplasma: "Creatures with bioplasma may make a single extra close combat attack, worked out at double the models initiative..."
under rending claws: "Tyranids with rending claws gain the rending ability for all their close combat attacks"
Now I know this likely isn't how most people intepret bioplasma but I can't find anywhere in the rules that says this is wrong. It is true that under the bioplasma entry It says that it doesn't benefit from monstrous creature abilities but nowhere does it mention anything about rending. If there is somewhere in the rules that says I'm wrong please let me know, but otherwise what do you guys think of this. 3 points for an extra rending attack on my warriors would be fine by me.
P.S. sorry if this has been discussed already, I did a quick search and didn't see anything.
The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed
If you are right, count on GW to clarify that in a FAQ soon enough, or at least I hope so....
FAQ, where are you?
Until then i guess they're rending! It makes sense if bioplasma can beneifit from leaping then it should benefit from rending.Originally Posted by MarcTheDwarf
This is where rules and reality do not jive. Think of it this way, you have a SM with a powerfist and bolt pistol, he gets an extra attack AND it is considered a PF attack even though it is from a bolt pistol.Originally Posted by Bugs_n_Orks
It simple, unless the rules says something like "Does nto benefit from other attack modifiers, etc" it is a rending attack.
Blah. . . Until a FAQ comes out, I'd say use common sense (and apply blunt objects to to rules-lawyers).Originally Posted by touel
I would agree with you until you try and play in a tourney, then it is all about the rules.Originally Posted by Ostsol

Nurgle Demonic Legion: 19W-3L-5T.
Tyranid All Shooty List: 10W-5L-6T
Is it too much when you can field 20k in fantasy?
No, then it's all about who the presiding official agrees with. At least 50% of understanding the game is interpretation of the rules and more often than not, interpretations differ. There is only one group of people who knows exactly what all of the rules mean and what the intentions behind them are: the development team.Originally Posted by Torden
Just to throm my 1.65 cents in, in the bio-plasma entry, it states that an MC with bio-plasma does not negate saves with its bio-plasma attack. To follow that train of thought, no special rules would apply to bio-plasma. However, I am thinking logically and trying to follow precedent, so, I am probably wrong, (not that I would EVER imply that GW doesn't think logically).

It doesn't make any sense that it would benefit from rending and its like the old thing with implant attack in 3rd. You could use it for ranged if your cheap but otherwise use it the way you know that it is supposed to be. The bioplasma will not have little diamond hard shards or claws in it that will tear through armor so don't use it that way.
