In my eyes Ethereal are underpowered and deserve more as they were the ones who clamed to previous blood thirsty Tau. Even my friends (who are strict space marine, eldar and chaos space marine followers) agree that having Ethereal who are psykers would indeed be very cool and would give them the power they need. Think about it the ethereal would be great as psykers, they even look like they are natural psykers. Please reply with your views
The problem here is you are thinking strictly in "game" terms. Fluff wise it would be terribly inappropriate for an Ethereal to have psyker abilities. The Tau simply aren't psykers.
Currently, Ethereals offer a very nice bonus with an equal downside. A few more bonuses would be nice though.
Sig by:Knape, The Celestial, and Marlinspike, thanks guys!
There are lots and lots of Ethereal-related threads lately..Originally Posted by Shas'vre
Anyways, I disagree. A psyker has a powerful Warp presence. The Tau have nearly NO warp presence (they have some, but nowhere enough for a psyker). The Ethereal, sure, he calmed the bloodthirsty, warring Tau. How does that make him a psyker, in the sense? He didn't Mind War them into submission or some other silly thing. He should not have "more" because he's supposed to be fragile, frail, and leaders. They aren't meant for combat, but for inspiration. Maybe some more to make them more like leaders, not warriors.
Fluff wise i agree it is absurd for an Ethereal to be a psyker but think battle wise. It would be cool for an ethereal to provide psykick support to his units while below an epic scene is taking place But these are just my viewsOriginally Posted by Lost Nemesis
Totaly agree you cannot just dismiss the whole background of a 40K race, the simple fact is that Tau have no detectable warp presence and no known offensive or defensive psychic abilities as outlined in other races lists.Originally Posted by Lost Nemesis
It has been speculated by the imperium scientists that the Ethereals may exhibit some as yet unclassified psychic or pheramone based control over the other castes, but its only speculation and no offensive power has been classified.
So its just silly to discount the fluff out of hand.
It does go rather against the grain to make them psykers. I like the idea of the Tau having little or no 'warp presence', it makes them nicer, cleaner somehow.
Their effect on the Tau race is psychological rather than to do with any great power derived from the warp. However these psychological effects could do with a little more 'oomph' in game terms and not have quite as catastrophic negative consequences.
As they are at the moment, I never use them. Commanders are a far better and much less risky investment.
