I have a 1500 point tournament battle against Dark Eldar this week and I'm wondering what units people use against them. I think he will be feilding something of the following:
Archite-(or Archon?) shadow field, agonizer or punisher, plenty of combat drugs
Ravager x 2-(?) shoots 3 plasma cannon type guns (are these STR 7 or 8?)
Wyches-just started using these. Do they have power weapons or do they just lower opponents WS?
I was thinking Wraiths. With thier Initiative 6 they will not strike last against his troops. Whats the Archites Initiative?
Any help is appreciated as the game is w/in the next few days and I have to win to stay in the tournament.
Wyches do NOT have power weapons, thank God.
I think that wraiths would be a good thing to take, especially to take on units of warriors and, if you need them to, the command squad. The invulnerable save would be good against the agoniser and the power weapons of the incubi.
Destroyers would be great at taking down raiders as well.
remember that it will all be about movement.
DE are weak (toughness and save style) but they have the power to keep mobile and dictatate the way the game works.
if you can establish strong firing lanes at the beginning and then keep stable
create a gameplan that will reduce their mobility then slaugter the troops once they have lost control.
target the wyches early if possible

Bring at least one Warscythe to take on that Shadow Field. That 2+ invulnerable save is quite annoying, I've faced one. Either that or just pump one hell of a lot of shots into him, he's bound to get a one eventually. But either way, once he fails that invulnerable save once, he loses it. Does not being allowed the save count, or does he have to take the save, and fail it?
I BELIEVE the Ravager has three Dark Lances, which are strength 8, so watch it. Heavy D's tear them apart, though. I might be wrong about the Ravager's weapons, though, I've only faced one once, and it was a couple of weeks ago.
Side note: When I did face a Ravager, my Heavy Destroyer (usually disgustingly imcompetant) took it out on a penetrate of a 6 first turn, first shot of the entire GAME. He then, of course, proceeded to get shot to hell by something else. Recently, I decided to send that Heavy D in for repairs (fluff-wise), since his targetting face-plate seems to be mal-functioning, he can't hit for ****. Missed 3 shots in a row yesterday. :realmad:
OK things to watch out for:
Archon is Intiative 7
Dracon is Initiative 6
Both can use a drug to make them initiative 10
Wyches do not have power weapons, but their succubus will and it will wound you on 4+ regardless of toughness. They halve your weapon skill, take away any extra attacks you get from 2 close combat weapons and have a 4+ invulnerable in close combat.
Ravagers can have a variety of weapon fits, if he takes Dark Lances they are strength 8, if he takes disintegrators they are st 7 blast or st heavy 3, his choice. Also they can be outfitted with a special upgrade that takes 6" off the range of any guns shooting at it, making your rapid fire guns 18" single shot or 6" rapid fire and youe heavy weapons shorter ranged.
If your opponent is taking two ravagers, I would be very careful. Heavy Destroyers are probably not the best answer; if he gets the first turn, he may likely eliminate the ENTIRE squad, nullifying WBB. Also, each Raider should have a single s8 ap2 gun, which can help take out your HDs. Regular Destroyers are about as effective at killing Raiders and Ravagers as Heavy Destroyers, so I would recommend taking those instead.
Also, the Necron's one bane to Dark Eldar is the monolith. It is practically impossible for us to kill - even if we shoot all our dark lances at it, we still need a 6 to GLANCE. The only other almost effective method would be Haywire grenades, which he is probably less likely to take and still only hits on a 6. The monolith can bounce one of your squads out of a melee with the wyches that they would almost certainly lose; and then the squad can shoot them to tiny pieces. Wyches are more vulnerable than imperial guardsmen to shooting outside of the raider (and with the light destroyers, the raiders are pretty vulnerable too). Just be sure to deploy somewhat far back, and don't rely completely on rapid fire, because a squad of wyches in a raider, if it's lucky, can have a 32" charge range. (12" raider move, 2" disembar, 6" fleet of foot, 12" assault with the right drugs). That's unlikely (1/36 chance) but a 24" move is pretty easy.
My formula to kill him would probably be some warriors with a res orb (they have lots of power weapons and probably Strength 8 guns) to prevent phase out, a monolith to wreak havoc, be invincible, and give you some mobility, and light destroyers to take out tanks. Phariahs might also be useful, since he's taking an army that almost entirely has invulnerable saves in melee. This can be risky, though, as phariahs can die easy, especially to I6 wyches.

First, let me thank everyone for the help. Ive been busy lately and didn't get a chance to respond as quickly as I would've liked to.
I played the game last night and he just barely managed to win. It came down to my monolith being destroyed on turn 5. He had not been firing at it all game but when I used it to teleport a squad of warriors behind cover he had nothing else to shoot at. "Hmmm, I got 1 dark lance left, might as well shoot it at the monolith. 3.....6....6! At this point in the game he had: Archite w/5 man Incubi squad, x 2 talos', x2 raider transports(troops were dead). I had 22 man warrior squad, Lord w/Scythe, Phase, Orb, Destroyer Bod(he just wouldn't stay down :p ), and aforementioned monolith.
Although I lost I was very pleased w/ the game. It was very close untill the untimely demise of my Lith. Once again I must impress that a Lord w/ a destroyer body moving w/ warriors is not a waste of points. The toughness 6 more than pays for the points. This guy dished out some major hurt and he had to throw A LOT at him just to kill him, and then he just kept getting up! (Every time for WBB he rolled a 6 but I had no Phylactry)
Thanx again for the feedback guys, it helped in the making of my list.
