Why did you choose dark eldar over all the other races, or even over eldar? What makes them so great. Is it low cheap armor?
Defend your race
First off dark eldar are one of the most difficult, if not the most difficult, army to play in 40k. They are very very lightly armored but they make up for it by being one of the fastest armies in the game. All vehicles and bikes can move 24" up the table and almost every squad can be transported in a vehicle. Dark Eldar combine a deadly speed with devestating weaponry; running circles around your enemy while annihilating them with splinter, dark lance, and blaster fire is something to see if done correctly.
Enemy armor can not stand up to DE heavy weapons fire since the dark lance counts any AV above 12 as 12. Goodbye land raiders, leman russes, and whatever else you can throw at us (save the monolith, pain in the ass to take down IMO).
Dark eldar have some of the best CC units in the game including the Archon, Archite, and wyches. Very few units can stand up to these, even nightbringers, hivetryrants, and demonprinces will fall to the might of a dark eldar HQ.
As I mentioned Dark Eldar are for advanced gamers with good tactics; not anyone can pick up and succeed with this army; you need to play a lot and have a lot of patience. In the end it will pay off.
Cheers to DE,
I agree with everything Dark Angel said. Dark Eldar are not a race that you can just pick up and play with like Space Marines. The DE don't have straightforward strategy like most of the other armies in the 40k universe. If you're new to 40k...don't play with Dark Eldar. You'll only embarass yourself. Personally I'd have to say Dark Eldar is more of a specialist race. They don't have insanely good superunits like Chaos or Necrons but instead rely on their lightning fast transport and effective CC units to see them through the day. SPEED is granted when playing Dark Eldar.

Dark eldar Are just fun to play. They make you think you dont havbe a 3+ armor or numbers to soak up your mistakes so you have to use tatics instead of movig forward and shooting.
They are unforgiving but though all the hardship when you come out on top you know that it wasnt the models being cheesey that made you come out on top but it was you your brilliant tatics and stragety that let your foces to victory time and time again. Once you start winning you wont see many losses
There is nothing more satisfying than to be at a game shop with your army and have someone challenge you. Then during setup have him tell you that he's sorry for the whipping you are fixing to take since DE is such a pushover army and can't beat anyone. Then whe the last die is rolled he has nothing left on the table and is standing there in disbelief and just getting his lunch money stolen.
This has happened to me more times than I can count. Of course they almost always follow that up with; "Well he must have cheated me. It is impossible for DE to beat (insert army name here)". So you show him your army list and ask exactly where/when you cheated.
I love how everyone thinks they are teh worst army in the game. Ive had red shirts tell me that I WILL lose almost every game with them by alot. yet i have yet to lose.
Dark eldar are the greatest army in the world ever (if used correctly) I may not be able to use them correctly, but I love it when fellow dark eldar players do. They can beat the crap out of every army in the game, once again, this is if used correctly.
Persomly i am going to perfect my deadly stategy that i have made for my marines, and then build up my de.
DARK ELDAR RUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLEEE
firstly the image the dark eldar creates is really cool. you have an army of what are pirates . who are obsesed with torture and have some of the best units and models in the game. Granted the dark eldar are hard as hell to play and you have to use them a certein way, but there is nothing better then seeing a squad of witchs maul 2 squads of orks, a basalisk and kannons all in 3 turns. And dont forget the haemonculi, i've seen some one take three of those babies in a raider ( all with destructor ) fly past a squad of 20 zerkers then leave the next turn the zerkers reduced to a pile of of slimeing goo. also what can be better than a talos called fluffy?
Rheagar fought nobly
Rheagar fought valiantly
Rheagar fought honorably
And Rheagar died.
The thing I love about Dark Eldar is that they are better than any other army at wiping people off the table. Dark Eldar are difficult to play, but as soon as you have a good rhythm it becomes almost comically easy to beat any army in the game. Particularly with my WWP Dark Eldar army my opponents always complain that they cannot think of a way of winning. Phasing out a Necron player on turn 3 has been a highlight of my 40k career. Provided that the player makes no mistakes, a Dark Eldar army will completely and utterly dominate a game, and easily beat a player by turn 3 or 4. A successful Dark Eldar game is like a carefully choreographed dance, and is unstoppable if exectued well.
In fact, I am almost embarassed at how well my Dark Eldar go. I have lost one game (where there was no cover in the middle of the board at all), but besides that everything comes out of the Webway on turn 3 and I just win. In fact, I win so easily that I've decided to sell off my Dark Eldar army, so if anyone's interested take a look here:
Beasts of Chaos (4000)
Chaos Marines (3000)
I choose Dark Eldar because I cant stand to watch "stand and fire" tactics often used by Marine and Guard players. I think that real movement is sorely lacking in most table top games so I went for the army with the most movement possible. And being an avid chess player I can appreciate finess and tactics probaly a lot better than most.Originally Posted by Gimmers
So I chose a fast, hard hitting shock type army that really uses the whole table and not just hogs the middle.
