ok so i'm just starting an eldar army but i can't decide what craftworld i should be. i am more into the combaty side of eldar but want a fairly balanced army but i know that limits me in my choice. i am swinging toward the ulthwe because of the awsome seer council, but i know this often turns out to be a more shooty army.

    some questions:
    - can wraithlords stand up to sm in close combat?
    - what are D-cannons?

also i heard they are gonna bring out a new harlequins codex soon and they can join any eldar craftworld but i read about them and they are DEFINITELY close combaty but are they worth their points? and do people let you use em?

Any help would be appreciated please.
    thanks

It can be quite hard to get a balanced army... If you want to play just normal eldar with a bit of everything your army is not specialised and can be mashed up quite easily. I suggest that you try to go for one style.
If you want close combat, i would suggest beil-tan! I am an ulthwe player, as are many here, and ulthwe strike force, when used well, can be a VERY close combat army (:drools when he thinks about 40 storm guardians popping out of the webway and laying 80 sweet shots into the Tau scum: )... anyway, Beil-tan is good because all of their troops choices are actually aspects, the best fighters with better AS , BS and WS. They are the best close combat army.

If you are thinking about doing Ulthwe, it all depends on your style of play. I like to store loads of Storm Guardians in the webway (see EoT codex) and then pop them out in the middle of the enemy base.

As for Alaitoc... i think you should only bother with them if you like long range guns and hiding a lot (Of course, ppl may disagree)

by looking at what you have told me it seems that you want Beil-tan (the colour sceme is white and green- very striking&#33
FROM THE BOOK OF THE IMPERIUM:

    1. Thou shalt not go on a panty raid in the Adaptus Soritus temple.
    2. Thou shalt not flirt with Howling Banshees. They are the enemy.
    3. Thou shalt not refer to Battle Sisters as Bolter Biatches
    4. Darth Vader isn’t the son of Abaddon
    5. Thou shalt not reassemble a Necron into a washing machine

Uh, dude, Biel-Tan is green, not red. Saim-Hann is red, and they're REALLY cool. They ride on jetbikes and stuff. If you LOVE close combat, go Biel-Tan. Their army is primarily comprised of aspect warriors, and are extremely fast if you play them correctly. However they are really tough to use, but fun. Ulthwe really is close to vanilla Eldar, but WAY better (I, like Saruman play Ulthwe). Alaitoc is for people who sit back and shoot their sniper rifles all day. If you even go near Iyanden, people can and will yell cheese.

Wraithlords dominate in close combat. Period. There's VERY little that can stand up to a wraithlord in CC. And yes. They will take out marines faster than you can say...well, faster than a lot of stuff. D-cannons are the single most powerful weapon available to Eldar. Strength 10, AP2, Heavy 1 Blast. It's amazing. However, it's a guess range of 24". Not very far. And not very accurate either. But when it hits, it's insane. Wraithguard, on the other hand, are a bit like terminators for us, but not really as good. They do have a nifty random effect to them. Personally, I don't really like them. And if you play Biel-Tan, you probably won't either. And here's a tip for you if you play Biel-Tan: USE THOSE SCORPIONS. They are VERY useful. If you have their exarch with a Scorpion's Claw, and you give then haywire grenades, they can tankbust. They are very good at CC, and their armor is great.

Hope this helped! Much luv!

I've played Alaitoc and I can say you that if you like shooty army you will love these ones. When most of your unit are sniper, you don't really have to worry cause the ennemy is hit on 2+ wounded on 4+ and if you get a 6 on the hit dice, no armor save... Yup, it kick ass! But if the ennemy is too fast or have bigger guns than yours, you are dead

Ulthwe is much more like the basic list, except they have a mege-psychic HQ, and black guardian. 20 guardian who shoot 40 times and hit on 3+ can hit really hard(especially against ork or tyranids... ) But if it's the psychic aspect you want, play a Thousand Sons army, it's a "almost" only psyker army (every unit leader is a psyker) and you can have a 10 psyker Hq...

ark then ive been cheated!!! well then my ranger army is more powertful!
but one rule i love about the rangers is on a 6+ on a d 6 their weapons becomes ap1 and path-finders are even better

also an wraithlord, avatar have good ws! but when they have to strike an Harlequin. Remember the special rule they all have!! but i think Harlequins are cool but they are really to expensive! one harlequin unit (troupes as they call em) cost the same as an Deamon hunter!!!

It should be noted that while, yes, Wraithlords are very good, they have a large reputation as such, and hence are also known as "Lascannon Magnets".

I would recommend the Biel Tan craftworld, since with all the aspects you can customise your army to face virtually any opponent.

Wraithlords own in hth, but harliquins are the greatest and deffintaly worth every points. Their unit called a solitare has ws7 and a special rule called blitz attack that when he charges he get +1 attack for each inch not used in charging, and he already has 4 attack not counting the plus one he gets if you arm him with a pistol and close comat weapon thatscrazy :o

:not you can download the harliquin codex from games workshop for free so this better not get edited:
