can the TMC still choose who they kill when in CC or has the opponent now that option to decide who gets killed.

The rule which allowed them to allocate their attacks against specific models is gone now, they are not pretty much ordinary MCs as described in the rulebook.
Basically, only ICs can be singled out as they are a unit of their own in CC. MCs can only choose to attack a unit (with the owning player choosing casualties from those eligible to die) or an IC (if in Bt.

HW realised that choosing who you attack made sergeants very weak choices for units, and it does make sense that he would be the last to fall, as is men would try to protect him in CC.
I wouldn't mind having our old TMC's back, they were something to be proud of.
With out TMC's, power fists can really get anoying as you'd need to kill the whole squad to get rid of that one model that will seriously hurt you.
