Alright ive pondered this question for a while in a CC fight between Nightbringer and Abaddon who would win? I dont have direct access to a Chaos Codex so i cant look it up and make a educated guess on who would win....any help with experiances in this case?
I've seen this before somewhere recently, but since it doesn't show up in the "search" function, I'll assume nobody has posted it before.
If I remember right, the math states that if neither of them is charging, then Abaddon has a flat 25% chance of killing the NightBringer outright. If he fails, then the Nightbringer, if following strict mathematical percentage, will have a 50% chance of dealing three wounds to Abaddon, killing him, or dealing 2 wounds to him, leaving him with one.
The next round, if he survivied, Abaddon again has a 25% chance of killing Nightbringer. If he fails, he'll most likely end up dying.
So, strictly mathematically speaking, Abaddon has a 37.5% chance of killing the NightBringer. Nightbringer has a 62.5% chance of killing Abaddon. Charging has no significant impact upon the figures I used. If you like, I can try to spell out how I did my math.
Ofcourse, everyone knows that statistics are unreliable, and it really comes down to luck in the end.
100% of statistics are 100% wrong.Originally Posted by Caluin
work that one out ;-)
The Nightbringer would win because he ignores invulnerable saves so he would easily slay abaddon. And even if he doesnt the bringer is toughness 8 so he will be wounding on 4s and cant kill the bringer outright with his powerfist, that is what he has right?I dont know abaddons stats.
Cheers,
Tycho
Abaddon doesn't need his lightning claws, he only needs to hit the NB with his deamonweapon.
being Str 4 means that he can whack away at the nightbringer all day with his demonsword- str 4 can't wound T8, and therefore cannot kill the 'bringer.Originally Posted by Dreachon

4+ save for the 'bringer
1/8 chance of wounding per attack: 3/8 per turn
it takes 2 and 1/3 turns to take off one wound. 5 wounds: 11 and 2/3 turns to kill the 'bringer.
Bringer: hits on 4s
wounds on 2s
no armour/ invulnerable save
Insta-kill
5/12 chance of wounding/ killing per attack: 25/12 per turn.
as you can see, statistically the 'bringer will kill Abby in the first turn of combat, whereas it will take 12 turns for Abby to kill the Bringer. and even then, the necrodermis effect will probably wipe out abaddon when e does.
i hope that this concludes the debate.
P.S.- the result would be even more one sided from range- storm bolters can't wound the nightbringer, and the nightbringer has a str 9 AP2 24" weapon- hits on a 3, wounds on a 2...
what cheese...

I dont play 'crons and i've never played against them so i dont have any exp. w/ the Nightbringer, but from what I've heard in this thread he = CHEESE!!!!
i feel pretty, o so pretty! I feel pretty, and happy, and High!
Have you ever thought about sitting down and re-evaluating your life?

indeed. he does =CHEESE.Originally Posted by W@CK!
however, remember that those 360 pts you spend on him cannot be spent on necrons, giving you a low phase out limit. he can only move 6" per turn, so if you can go around him, you home free- get into those juicy warrior units and watch him disappear.
Some of you have mentioned Abaddon's powerfists, but he doesn't have any. His strength four is too puny to wound the 'bringer.
The only thing is the rule for his sword Drach'nyen. Pg. 44 states "Any hit inflicted ignores armour saves and kills the victim outright," (Emphasis mine). Now, I don't know if this has been discussed in the chaos forum, and I am, to be honest, too lazy to check, but this could mean that this hit kills without having to roll to wound. Does anyone know for sure the answer to whether you have to roll to wound with his sword? That would solve a lot as far as this thread goes.
If all you need to do is hit, then yes, Abaddon stands a 25% chance of killing the Nightbringer. If you need to roll to wound with the sword, then Abaddon cannot even scratch the 'bringer. The wording is kind of confusing.
ah yes, sorry, some misreading there- and ignorance of rules.
lightning claws are not the same as powerfists, and do not double strength. in stead, they ignore armour saves and re-roll to wound dice.
therefore, the Talon cannot wound the 'bringer.
however, the demon sword can. all hits auto-wound, and all wounds auto-kill. it's just the 'bringer's invulnerable save standing between it and oblivion.
i adjust my above profile accordingly.
Abby: hits on a 4
auto-wounds
4+ invulnerable save.
Insta-kill
1/4 chance per attack: 1/4 chance per turn.
Bringer: hits on 4s
wounds on 2s
no armour/ invulnerable save
Insta-kill
5/12 chance of wounding/ killing per attack: 25/12 per turn.
which leaves it a lot closer than i had thought.
Abby gets the initiative, and so he has a 1 in 4 chance to kill the nightbringer before the nightbringer strikes back. if it strikes back, he dead.
