How would you rate the Necron Lord compared to other HQ's?
The Neccron Lords main focus in not combat, and his main goals are to help the other Necrons do the majority of the killing, but I would still like to evaluate him as an HQ.
The focus of the Lord in the Nercon Army is not as a combat machine. He has a nice weapon in either the Warsyth or the Staff of light, but most other HQ's in the game can get better weapon combinations. His stats are weak for an HQ, and unless you spend another 70 points on a Phase Shifter and Destroyer body, he is not very tough compared to many HQ's.
He has little or no range on his attack and when he does shoot his Staff of Light is good against rank and file troops, but poor against heavy troops and monsters.
All in all, most other HQ's will chew him up and spit out the metal pieces. He is also fairly expensive, needing around 200 points of war gear to be effective. He is not even fearless. (I think all Necrons should be!!!)
I would rate him average overall, with most Space Marine, Nid and Eldar HQ's being better overall, but bottom of the rung in combat effectivness with only the Imp Guard HQ being weaker.
Third in the game, below Guard and Eldar. The support that you get from a lord is indespensible.
Forth, right after Tyranids and Chaos and Orks. A Necron Lord will out CC anything that isn't of the three armies that I just mentioned. This is only if he's supported by something, Wraiths come to mind if he's a D-Lord.
Dreams give us a vision of a world unlike any we have seen. They present us with a glimpse of a better life; a goal to aspire to, and in the face of insurmountable odds, they provide us with the power to overcome, to live on, and to succeed where we would have otherwise failed.
Tooled-up SM or Dark Eldar lords will eat a necron lord for breakfast!
The thing is that the Necron has good Stats, but little equipment to improve its CC prowess. Furthermore, he's too useful as a support for other Necrons to throw in a CC, unlike SM and DE lords.
Mine usually hangs around with its orb, and veils squads out of CC for some gauss retribution. He'll gladly join a fight to tip the balance, but no more than that.
EXCEPTION: the "destroyer Lord with destroyer body, phase shifter, warscythe, and phylactery is actually good in CC, in particular when escorted by Wraiths.
Just using the veil of darkness is MUCH better than having a tooled up CC lord. It is much more flexible, and when it comes down to it, the HQ doesnt do all that much damage unless he is tyranid or chaos
haha i'm safe behind my terrain piece here... those footsloggin necrons will never reach me... WHAT THE HELL A GIANT PYRAMID THINGY JUST MATERIALIZED OUT OF THIN AIR!
