I heard that missile pods are chaning to S5 AP4 36" assault 2.
It's a rumour, ok? So NO confirmation.
This is, however, a thread to talk about the implication of this.
It still kills T3 4+ just as good, although cannot instakill multiple wound models (IG officers in carapace armour are the only guys I can think of). It has a little tougher time against T4 4+, but it is minimal.
It is, however, a HUGE difference when it comes to thinking anti tank. It reduces the tau ability to take out falcons to ion cannons only. Until they fix the eldar codex, we are going to have a lot of problems.
It also makes the burst cannons on crisis suits look a little better.
The cost change is, of course, 12p for one and 18p for twinlinked.
Personally, I hate this. I rely heavily on a guy with missile pods to take care of rhino's and transports, so my railgun can look after tanks and lay down submunitions.
This change makes ion cannons better, due to it being the only S7 (apart from krootox). Which means tau have a tougher time taking out land raiders.
GW have a plan, I wouldn't say this change is going to be all that bad, but for the time being...
Correct me if I'm wrong (I probably am) but aren't missle pods currently heav2?
Second, Think on the bright side maybe they'll give you a NEW gun that's S7
Third, these are the ones that ignore terrain right?
Fourth, could ya tell us where you heard the rumor? I don't doubt you, but I'd like to know so I could potenially find some more info.
Lastly, How many S8 and 9 guns do you have? While I know S7 is very nice (marine plasma) it is possible that GW decided that the Tau have enough high strength weapons. (please don't get angry at me for this I'm npt saying you do, just that this is a possible reason. Hopefully you just get a new gun though)
Qui est Mortis? Lol, the rep... neggatized for something... lol that nobody payed attention too... Lol Goodbye all, BTW This is permanent goodbye so save some bandwidth mods delete this account :D  :D  :D
Just correcting Brother Darien, missile pods are currently assault 2.
They also do not ignore terrain. They are mounted on crisis suits.
You should doubt me, I've given no evidence nor will I. But discuss it anyway .
S8 guns? We have a fusion gun which is a melta, which can be mounted on a crisis suit. We do not get any S9 guns. As for S10 guns, when this change comes around, we will have mobile broadsides (slow and purposful - again, not confirming this with any evidence and thus it's a whole lot of hogswash), so it might suplement the loss of the missile pod anti tank.
Ahhh! Not the missile pods! Why would GW need to nerf missile pods? Unless they are planning on giving Tau many more battlesuit options, I don't see the point in it.
Highly likely.Originally Posted by PeekItUp
I'm thinking of the possibility of assault 3. Or even heavy 3, with crisis suits able to move and fire hevy weapons (as they should have always been able to). Then it's gone from an auto cannon to heavy bolter, it's not so bad. Plus it makes some sense, there are 3 missile holes on the model! Not 2!
As they were before, they majority of people would only ever use plasma rifles and missile pods, this way people might rethink.
What would drive GW to scrap the missle pods, take away anything else but leave me my missle pods. If they do change them as you say the should be S5 Ap4 Assault 3. But seeing as you can't give us any proof i'll just be happy knowing that they will most likely not change them.
I don't think that GW is going to mess with the Missile Pod (other than to make it 2 pts cheaper). The reason I say this is because in IA 3 they still have the Pod as our beloved str 7 weapon. Also if they want to make any weapon like a Heavy Bolter they should have done that with the Burst Cannon.
Peace through Superior Firepower! =^.^=
Why would thy even WANT to make a weapon like the Heavy Bolter? It's a great weapon, but it's not Tau who created it. there should be some changes between armies other then the models.Originally Posted by KCKitsune
the missile pods, if they really change them as you tell us, I will deffintly rethink my configurations on my crisis suits :glare:
I really cannot see why GW would do this, why make the most uselss bit of kit in the Tau armoury even less usefull, As it stands the only thing they are good at is wounding on 2+ (but the AP is crap) and the armour killing has always been overated(its only my opinion Oni so lets avoid a big discussion on how effective they are eh), so why would they reduce the effectiveness even further.Originally Posted by onlainari
I cant think of any role this configuration would be optimised for, its basically a slightly more effective pulse rifle (better range, better AP and better shot rate) but the numbers you could field would make them useless. Now ST5, AP3, assault 2 would be good.
