Well just getting my nids rdy for my first battle tomorrow.
I have 3 fex's and trying to figure out how i want to arm them.
Going to go with 2 H.Support and 1 Elite.
for the heavy support i think ill stick with the trusty venom cannon, but my question is as for a 2nd weapon should i go cheap and get SC or another VC? which i think makes them TL now? which is kinda suxors.
as for the elite i think ill do just a basic fex with SCx2
also going to GW tomorrow... might pick up a 4th one and do the "dakka" fex ie. twin dev.
Twin Linked Devourer / Venom Cannon or Barbed Strangler / Venom Cannon are the favored combos. Even better, because VC adds to strength, and barbed strangler's max is slightly lower, you don't need to spend points boosting the Carni's strength, because both weapons will always be at maximum strength anyway.
Seriously though, I'm about to finish my article about arming Carnifex's and I plan to post it a little later tonight or maybe in the morning. If you wanna see my opinions, then you can check it out as soon as I apply my ass to my chair and finish it.... :
I have three 'Fexes in one of my two current lists. The other list has none. So, for my three 'Fexes, I typically use them as follows -
Two Heavy Support, each with a VC/BS combo, and EC
One Elite "Dakka-Fex".
I was going to use magnets and swap the arms whenever I wished and all that jazz, but then I realized I didn't really like any other form of 'Fex, so they stay the way they are.
There's a long detailed and outright amazing article about equipping your 'fex on another site that I'm pretty sure I can't link to. But here's the two 'fexes that are the only ones I'd ever use:
Dakka-Fex: 2x Twin-Linked Devourer, EC - takes an Elites choice
GunFex: VC, BS, EC, Reinforced Chitin
CC based fexes are unlikely to ever earn their points back, particularly in faster armies, though they can be used as relatively effective fire magnets I guess.

i put the BS on the lower holes since the arm part is shorter. what about the VC?
the ones i like are the dakkafesx, and the illusive PIEFEX - Barbed Strangler, twin deathspitters, enhanced senses + any defensive upgrades you want...
I'd give your carni a tail weapon az well to make up for the lack of close combat wepons...
NO!!! BAD!!! BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!!!
Sorry to say that, but that's a horrible waste of points. Fexes aren't combat monsters (despite what some people think) and if you have a fex in combat with 4 models in base contact then chances are you've already lost the entire battle. (Most good Tyranid armies are CC-based, and if there are CC monsters killing your long-range firepower then you've either lost your front line or messed up terribly to an extremely quick force) Just get another Spinegaunt, or something similar, before being silly and wasting points on something you will NEVER use if you are playing with even half your brain engaged.
Incidentally, I found it far easier to use my BS on the right arm and VC on the left arm. I still had to coat the bastard in Green Stuff to get it to work half decently, but I found it easier than I think it would have been otherwise. I assume that the greenstuff on your BS is there in order to try and extend your BS so that it will fit when you're using the connector thingy in the back arm?
PS: Does anyone else find it irritating when the GW rules team and design team are on totally different pages? I mean, seriously, who uses Mixfexes? I'll allow for certain newbies using tanked out Uberfexes, and I guess that'll make GW more money when they decide to pick up another Fex with an actually useful design... but mixfexes? All the long range weapons should be designed to be used on on each side. Either that, or it should be easy to configure them so that you're using feed tubes on one side and guns on the other and it still looks good. Currently you've got to have on side pointing at the ground and the other at the air to even get them to be capable of both being on the same model without some serious green stuff usage.
PPS: Sorry if that first part sounds like I'm flaming. But I think it is extremely important that Tyranid players do not waste their points by mixing their fexes.
