Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have a friend who is starting the game. He has alwase been a fan of the tau fluff and minature range so his obviouse choise when starting was tau. He is starting to collect models currently he has a unit of fire warriors and a battlesuit commander dude (I am not overly familiar with tau models  ).He isnt sure what direction he should take his army from here besdies the obviouse getting the codex (why he didnt get it frist I have no clue). I am looking for any suggestions to help guide myu friend in the most effective direction possible. If it effects how his list plays(which I think it would) the armies he will mostly be playing are Marines and Guard and occasionaly hell play nids or necrons. Please any help with this would be appreciated because he is new to warhammer all together and I have never even picked up a Tau codex. Thanks ahead of time.
Well, if he's got a Battlesuit and a box of Fire Warriors, he should-no, MUST-pick up another box of Fire Warriors. A Battlesuit Commander and 2 12-man teams of Fire Warriors are at the core of every Tau army worth it's plastic. After that, I'd look into picking up a Hammerhead Gunship, for some heavy-duty firepower. After that, a few more Battlesuits or a few blisters of Stealthsuits would probably be the best.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.
Member of the Canadian Clan, eh.
Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
But first, I say he should register here, no offence, but correspondance is hard when n1 person dosen't know what hes talking about.
1 HQ and 2 Troops are the core of everything, that and the codex .
And to know anyjthing beyond there is hard, cause from there he can go Mech by buying 2 Devilfishes, or more suits, or Kroot, Or Hammerheads, or Broadsides, or Pathfinders.....ect ect.
An extra box of suits is essential, another suit wouldn't hurt. Kroot are always good but some people refuse to play with them. the core of your list should be suits and firewarriors, from there it is just preference. Get him to proxy stuff beofre buying (this helps me alot). Get him to sign up here so we can get a better idea of what he wants.
I am definately getting him to sign up here. Also thank you all for the advice.
Get 9 Broadsides!!
Well, at least you'll kill stuff.
i've played a list w/ 9 broadsides before and a gamesworkshop. I was playing against an armored company. before we even got to the troop deployment, he just took his models off the table and left the store. thought that was funny
Lizard, make sure he gets the Codex and that he reads it. No offense but you cant be the only one that teaches him, he needs to teach himself, and the Codex is one of the best places to start, and LO.
