    "Only War": Deviant lists

Okay, so, for anyone who follows white dwarf you'll recognize where the idea for this post came from. In WD there is a monthly article called "Only War" where the writers pretty much get down to brass tacks on tactics and strategies in 40k, everything from new units coming out to old basics are covered. Well pretty much I wanted to do something similar to what they(the writers at WD) did in one article when the new SM Codex just came out, wich was to print a series of deviant and extreme SM lists all with their own equally radical strategies. So what I wanted to see is if you guys had anything like that for the Necrons, just for fun ^_^ . The more extreme the list, the better but, try to keep the lists legal. I prsonally have a 2 Lord w/res orbs, 2 Monolith, and 41 warrior list I've come up with myself.

There's always the fast CC list:

    2 Destroyer Lords (HQ)
3 Maxed squads of Flayed Ones (Elite)
2 Maxed squads of Wraiths (FA)
1 Maxed squad of Scarab Swarms (FA)
    2 Minimized Warrior Squads (Troops)
2 Maxed Heavy Destroyer Squads (HS)
1 Maxed Tomb Spyder Squad (HS)

I've played it before in proxy. (I don't know anyone that has thirty Flayed Ones.) It got pretty ugly very quickly, because I had the Scarabs and the Flayed Ones all Deep Strike and by the luck of the dice, they all came in at the same time. I was playing against the Imperial Guard. In his panic, the Guard general ended up obliterating one of his own squads with a poorly-aimed cannon shot.

How about the big boys list:

    Nightbringer
    3 Monoliths
    Necron Lord with Res orb
    Rest of Points in Warriors

Do you have enough Lascannons to deal with that!
Ask not a question of the eldar, for they will give you three answers all of which are true and horrifying to know.

    My theoretical 1500pt list.

    Lord with Res Orb
4 Heavy Destroyers (for any +2 saves)
And now the good part.......60 Warriors

Tactic - place the 60 warriors in 3 seperate units on each side of the Lord in the middle (thus giving them all WB.

Congratulations........let's see you phase THAT out.

Oh my God those are some crazy ass lists! Especially the one Dunklezahn posted(Holy bejeezus!) Props to Addoran and quickasawink as well(the speed list is a great one in particular I've never seen a speed list done with those unit choices like Flayed ones). Keep 'em coming guys!

In all seriousness, though, lists like these are great for practicing new tactics and getting a deeper understanding of your units' and your army's capabilities.

I have played a list like Addoran's before, but I subsituted Immortals for the Heavy Destroyers. It was very good for getting a grasp on how nasty massed Gauss fire really can be.

I have not fielded a Heavy Destroyer since then.

Two I used come to mind that I have actually used.

1000 point list. Nightbringer, Monolith and 22 warriors. It did really well. i played Grey Knights, Nids and Eldar in a tournie and slaughtered them all. They had nothing to stop either the 'lith or Nightbringer, and the Monolith stoped me from phase out.

My other list was also for a tournie, but it was a tournie where you were not supposed to follow the force chart at all. 1750, and anything went.

I had Nightbringer, 2 Monoliths (one made of lego) 2 Spyders, 20 Pariahs, and tonnes of swarms. NO NECRONS!!! Phase that out! Anyway, it was really fun and scared people, but I lost to IG badly before killing Nids and tieing Chaos Nurgle.

Both really fun, both really unusual.

this is illegal cause you don`t have any troops

I use this a list, based around flying and shooting

    -1 lord
    veil
    orb
    -lord
    body
    scythe
    orb
    shifter
    -7 immortals
    -10 & 11 warriors
    -7 scarabs
    -2x 5 destroyers
    -3 H.destroyer
    -monolith

    -30 flayed ones

    -6 wraiths
    -5 destroyers
    -5 tomb spiders
    -nightbringer
    -lith
    = 2300 points

    Read the post.

Anyway, this army has one big problem. 75% of its necrons are dead when the game starts, since you don't have any. So you die instantly.
But if you're not supposed to follow the force organization chart, and you don't phase out, I think that the following list could work very well. (1800) points

    300 Deciever
    300 Deciever
    300 Deciever
    360 Night Bringer
    360 Night Bringer
    60 5 Swarms
    120 10 Swarms

But since you'd never play that way, I like the following list... (2000 points)
185 Destroyer lord w-res orb, gaze of flame
    170 Destroyer lord w-res orb
    180 10 Warriors
    180 10 Warriors
    250 5 destroyers
    250 5 destroyers
    200 4 destroyers
    195 3 Heavy Destroyers
    195 3 Heavy Destroyers
    195 3 Heavy Destroyers
