when scarabs come out of the box there's 4 little scarabs for each base. i was wondering if it was legal to put only one little scarab on a base. by doing this you can get 12 scarabs from a box (if u have extra bases)
is it legal though?
Well scarabs are a swarm creature, also the number on the base is to indicate their multiple wounds in their profile. So I think alot of people probably wouldnt like to see the bases without the correct number of scarabs on them.
Iron Warriors 9/1/0 (w/l/d)
World Eatters 15/1/0
Scarabs (and Rippers from Tyranids) need multiple models on their base. The fewest I use is three (in both cases) since that accurately represents the number of wounds each base has. 4 scarabs is a lot considering you only get 12 per box (3 bases), but 5 Rippers is insane, considering you only get 2-3 per box (not even a base).

I checked with GW and posted the question on this site before. The actual ruling for swarm bases is there must be a single model for each wound of the base. Therefore, you are only required to have 3 scarabs per base as the model has 3 wounds. So go buy some extra bases and watch your scarabs multiply by 125%.
I do not criticize. I do not offend. All I offer is my opinion which means only as much as you make it.
Why not cut them in half and have half a scarab on each base? I scarab per base isn't much of a swarm is it? Look around on ebay if you want more, thats what i did. Think i have 24 bases of them now - all with 4 on each!!
