I can kill just about every other unit with ease, but I hate fighting terminators. I just can't seem to kill them. 2+ save kills me!
My best sucess is to just shoot as many Rapid Fire shots intto them and then tie them up with Warriors. I usually kill about 3 for a full squad of warriors.
Heavy D's don't last long enough. Regular D's don't have enough shots to make it work well. If I use C'tans then that can be an answer. Lords, flayed ones and pariahs just get rocked.
Sacrificial Warriors. If they DS near your lines, try leaving or moving a juicy Warrior squad in their wake. Once they are engaged, just move away and concentrate on the rest of the army (keeping your units far enough away that they can't Consolidate into you again).
Shooting them is tough since we lack in the low AP department, but tying them up works well. I'd say throw scarabs at them, but the powerfists tend to make short work of scarabs.
Gyauayuayuayua! Ja! Ve vill crush da little girly men in deir little girl men awrmor! Ve vill see owur enemies driven befowur us, und hear da lahmentaytions of deir wemen. If they are not in DS you can ignore them since them move 6" per turn.
You can give them some shooting (take out 1 or 2) then assault them with destroyer lord with phase shifter and warscythe, tomb spyders also do well (except for that when termies strike back they are going to smash him into the ground but if they have lightning claws then they need 6 to wound him.. )that`s not true, any destroyer moves 12" (not counting the ability to turboboost) and shoots at 36", terimes move 6" and shoot at 24", you can simply chase around the table and shoot. Destroyers don`t have enough shots ???!!! Man this is heresy, a full sqaud produces 15 shots with str 6!!!!!Heavy D's don't last long enough. Regular D's don't have enough shots to make it work well
All you need to do is concentrate you shooting, imho that is the most important thing in necrons. Well unless you are using a "loads of warrios" list.
You put 60 gauss shots into terminators and you're gonna kill 3 or 4. We don't rely on quality of shots but rather quanity. If there's no fists then hit them with scarabs. If there are all fists, a 5 pack of pariah can really put a severe crimp in their style. (Considering between the shooting and charging you're killing on average 4-6)
Good point, but it's not going to help you if they deep strike. Lots of shots from warriors is really the only answer, but you can also hold them up with scarabs. I think the best thing to do is keep shootin' and hope you take care of them early.any destroyer moves 12" (not counting the ability to turboboost) and shoots at 36", terimes move 6" and shoot at 24", you can simply chase around the table and shoot
my solution is the nightbringer and tomb spiders, when they charge your warriors, couter charge with the ctan and 3-4 spiders, and the termie squad is gone in a turn.
Procrastination- hard work often pays off over time, but laziness always pays off now.
Indifference- it takes 43 muscles to frown, and 17 to smile, but none to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

I've defintely had a bad rep vs termies, especially drop pods. These guys drop turn 2, charge turn 3, and are finished mopping up my scattered forces by 5. There is a big need for AP 2 which we have but at terrible quantity. I just don't play termies anymore just got fed up. But decisive manouvers are the best bet you have. Use bait units to lure them into a firing trap and small units to tie him up while you get into another position. His main concern will be getting to grips with you in CC so use it against'em.
Presently, my answer to termies is simply: C'tan.
There are some players that consider it to be the no-thought, no-tactics, no-talent approach to countering termies, but I'll counter that every time with "It's all we've got!"
I've tried the Heavy Destroyer approach and they
On top of that, if I go right after the termies I'm probably ignoring something equally disgusting like a vindicator or a predator. Go after tanks with the HDs (like I'm suposed to) and the termies get ignored.
- Don't kill them fast enough.
- Don't live long enough.
Granted, if the termies deepstrike I'll get a round or two to clear the vehicles off the board before the termies get there, but with the way I roll I usually need a round more than I get. Of course this is all assuming the marine player isn't doing his job and my HDs are still on the table past his first shooting phase.
I've also tried the "massed fire" approach whereby I point every warrior squad in the army that's within double-tap range of the termies and open fire untill they're gone.
My problems with this are as follows:
- I would rather have the warriors shoot at something they can more efficiently kill like tactical squads.
- If I'm focusing enough firepower on the termies to actually kill them all, I'm probably ignoring enough of his army to cost me the game.
I have also tried to counter termies with a wraith wing. This actually works fairly well except for the facts that it relies on attrition and my capacity to make both 3+ invulns and 4+ WBBs somewhat consistantly. What usually happens is I'll make 1-2 termies fail their saves, my d. lord will kill another 1-2 with his warscythe, and the scarabs will suck just enough casualties to preserve my wraiths and prevent the termies from actually losing the combat.
By the time the combat is truely over one of two things will usually have happened:
- Marine reinforcements will have arrived to save the termies.
- I will have won due to the warscythe and a handfull of failed armor saves but will have lost everything by 1-2 wraiths and the lord...maybe.
Trading a 600 point wraith wing is not an efficient way to kill > 400 points of marine terminators.
All of the above is why I love the C'tan. C'tan assaults termies = Squad of dead termies. There is no maybe. A c'tan will win the vast majority of fights against termie squads of practically any size.
And the best part is: a c'tan will run you less than 10 terminators. It's actually somewhat efficient.
Wake. Rise. Destroy. Conquer.
We have done so once. We will do so again.
A single destroyer bodied, Phase shifting, warscythe packing lord will see off the average 5 man terminator squad. Charge one end of the squad, not the middle and after your attacks that kill a couple your enemy may have 2 or four powerfist/sword attacks back, a wound, if he's lucky, if he doesn't break you can still kill him easily due to the termies poor number of attacks, less than a quarter of which will do you any harm. Your lord should chew through them in sort order, even with his limited combat skills.
Ask not a question of the eldar, for they will give you three answers all of which are true and horrifying to know.
Good point form what I`ve seen most necron players lack the CC sense which models take out and how much charging necron warriors can do and waht advantage you can have buy putting them in CC.Charge one end of the squad, not the middle
I think that`s the second or third time this topic comes back, this problem is like a boomerang.
