Hi, i'm new to 40K, and i'm starting with Tau(yea, i know, i'm insane&#33, but anyway, I got a small army right now, consisting of 24 firewarriors,8 gun drones, 1 Crisis suit, 3 normal pathfinders, and 3 with the railguns (if this works, i havent really gotten into the rules and such yet, i'm just doing the models right now. I've gone about shaving off their visor-like things on their helmets making them completely smooth, and got lazy on the Crisis suit and basically left it the same, just added som hoses and stuff here and there, not much to it. My gun drones are also slightly converted, they have a boxier look and stuff.

But anyway, I now need ideas on painting them, the helmets are gonna be a bit of pain because of their plainness...I'm wanting to go with a white and metallic blue scheme...I would also like to see pics if anyone has ever seen any other faceless Tau armies...i'll post pics of mine once I get a few painted...

You are smoothing the front of the helmet too? COOL!

Would love to see some pics.

My scheme is basecoat graveyard earth over black undersuit. Then tiny dots of grey, brown, and tan. Sort of a desert digital cammies look. SWEET!

yea, all of mine are currently faceless(sounds cooler than smooth ), even the metal pathfinders and railgunners, it was fairly simple and easy for me..how are you doing yours? I'm going more for an arctic theme..and away from Tau tradition by being just a little flashy... not too much though

Painting white is a pain, because in the end it looks...well white. White = boring. But if you are dead set on using white here is how you do it so it looks good. Start with a white undercoat and then paint the undersuit of the FW's Ghostly Grey (it's a Citadel Color, basically really light grey) mix white into the grey (50% white/ 50% grey) on your palette and repaint the undersuit leaving the deep recess grey. Now take striaght white and do the same thing but leaving a bit of the mix paint and the dark grey in the cracks (this is called shading if you didn't know). Now paint the armor black very carefully, you don't want to screw up the job on the undersuit. Make sure you don't see any white through the black, this may take two or three coats. Take blue ink and paint it in the cracks of the armor (if you look at the codex you'll see the cracks, they are a pain for me to see) then take your metallic blue paint and paint the plates on the armor.

Always remeber to water down your paints!! Otherwise you clog the details.

My Tau are bone armor and purple undersuit, it sounds strange I know, but it works. Seriously though I'd consider another color than white.

well, i'm trying to steer clear of the typical camo people usually use for the Tau, I want something to stand out(i was thinking of making them look like ALIENs, y'know from the movie ALIEN, lol, a really cool idea..but too much heavy converting for a first time player...) one of my crisis suits and a faceless firewarrior have graciously volunteered to be paint scheme guinea pigs...so far they've seen 3 color schemes(and i remove paint and redo them, just dont add coats, lol), I was also thinking of doing a Command and Conquer NOD army..which looked good for the Tau, but didn't work for mine seeing as how their helmets are all smoothed...and one last question...what's the color for each races blood?(i need like a list..)

There is another thread on the colour of different races' blood.

I believe that in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary everybody else decided that every single race - alien and human alike have red blood.

bah..ignorance...i see the necrons having green or oil-like blood, tau having green or yellow(seeing as how i've noticed the similarities to the ALIEN and PREDATOR designs), Dark Eldar with purple, anything Chaos with a pus-like yellow/green...and umm..that's all I have for now...but back to the topic, lol
