3 Tyranid Warriors Warriors - ES(BS) EC Leap SR TS RC1 DS (149)
12 Genestealers (192)
8 Gaunts TS WoN (104)
1 Biovore (55)
Bio-acid Spore Mines
Total Cost: 500
Kensei, first up, welcome to Librarium Online. I would suggest posting in the thread introducing yourself, you'll get to meet the mods that way. This thread is called "Introductions" and is in the Off Topic area.Originally Posted by kensei81
Anyway, about the list. First up, WON IMO is a waste. More gaunts or Hormies. What is the second weapon on the warriors? I'm not sure I would take a Biovore in a list that small. I would also take the TS off the gaunts. Thes guys are your fodder. Keep 'em cheap and get more. I normally try to field hormies as well.
The warriors are a good HQ in a small list. However, you gave them leaping and guns. they are better doing one or the other.
If I may, I would suggest checking out the new "Nid tacticas done by Hourglass. They are topnotch. Hopefully he will be compiling them into a single tactica shortly.
anyway, once again, welcome to LO, enjoy yourself and I'll see you in the forums.

As above stated...the more the better especially in such a small point game. Field all of your gaunts you can, keep the Warriors cheap and alive. Use stealers...the amount is up to you, and you might consider some Rippers if you have any just to tie things up. Keep the Biovore at home, don't use heavy support in a 500 point game.
3 Warriors - ES, Tox, EC, ST, 1vc, 1ds & dev - 116 pts
8 Genestealers - EC - 160 pts
16 Spinegaunts - 80 pts
9 hormagaunts - 90 pts
1 Biovore with bio acid - 55pts
total 501 pts.
The reason I say go with the biovore is that Black Templar have some special rule where they MUST charge any model in charge range. Drop the spore mine the direction you want to lead them. Conveniently it will get charged and they are all nicely packed around it when it explodes. hehe evil smirk.
Zerling, that is brilliant, I hadn't thought of that. In the same theme, stip a couple of points to get some Spore mine clusters. Drop 'em behind the Templars and get them running off the board or to break up there lines so you hit them when they can't properly support. Pure nasty eatiness.

birlliant idea, thanks....
sorry about the lack of introduction. been collecting on and off for a few years now, and have just started to get serious - making board, heaps of scenery and the like.
i've just bought a zanthrope - would you recommend including it?
A zoanthrope is always handy against SM since both the warpblasts it has negate their precious armoursaves.
so here's the revised version:
All models are standard unless stated
3 Warriors - ES(BS) EC TS ST1 DS (11
Scything Talons (x2)
Reding Claws (x1)
8 Spine gaunts (40)
8 Hormagaunts - TS ST (96)
8 Genestealers (12
Bio-acid Spore Mines
Total Cost: 502
let me know what you all think..
You are going to have a difficult time with medium to heavy armor, if he takes any. I would suggest dropping the Biovore and Zoanthrope and working in a Carnifex with a venom cannon. A Hive Tyrant would not be a bad choice either. In fact, definitely better than the Carnifex as it gives you more synapse.
I would also suggest making your Warriors only H2H. Give them adrenal for WS and I (you do not have to take toxin sacs with the rending claws to be effective). Leaping H2H Warriors do not stay in that ugly rapid fire danger zone long and butcher Marines when they charge. 4 rending attacks each on the charge! Plus, you can give them bioplasma to make them hit skimmers easy or just for another attack.
The problem with the 1 Biovore or 1 Zoanthrope is that they are kinda hit and miss. The Biovore will scatter 2/3rds the time, while the Zoanthrope only hits 1/2 the time. Also, a toughness 6 creature is a heck of a thing for someone to deal with in a small game. A walking Tyrant with a venom cannon and twin-linked devourers can lay out some serious hurt on anybody.
500 points is sort of difficult for me to figure, since my games are usually 1850+ these days. I just do not run into it. However, I came up with this:
Hive Tyrant - Adr (WS), ES, TS, with venom cannon and devourers
3 Warriors - Leap, Adr (WS), EC, FH with rending claws and scything talons
6 Genestealers - EC and FH.
In my experience, Spinegaunts are only there to tie up someone in H2H for a short period. Especially Space Marines, they will butcher the gaunts. Even Hormagaunts do not do well against Space Marines, unless you take WS, I, and Toxin Sacs (in that order of priority). You might do well to drop the Hormagaunts and take some more Spinegaunts and Genestealers.
Now, against Tau, IG, and Orks I never take Genestealers. Hormagaunts perform great and are cheaper. Space Marines are just tough cookies.
thanks for the brainstorm - i'll put it into motion and see what happens...
