Welcome to Librarium Online!
I sold my tyranid, DH and Skaven armies, because I didn't quite have the money to paint/glue em, and bought necrons, the first army I ever wanted to buy.
But after a long discussion with my friends, and reading on the forums, I feel crushed by peer pressure. Everyone tells me they are absolutely waaay too easy to play, and overpowered.
I have a box of Necron warriors, and am definately not stopping, but I'd like to know more about necron weaknesses and strenght before going on.
Your friends are idiots. Tell them to play like they have a pair.
Knock off 75% of the Necron models and the rest of the army will vanish.
Low initiative (even on our Necron Lord has the initiative of a basic Space Marine) means we don't dominate CC no matter how tough to kill we are.
The mandatory block of an HQ and 2 Troops costs 460pts.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
Unless your Tau or Orks Necrons are pretty easy to deal with.
Marines can do anything Necrons can better and have Terminators. Eldar have ton's of Starcannon, WL and powerweapon nastiness. IG have S8 ap3 Pie plates and loads of heavy weapons. CSM have what marines have and then some.
Necrons are a good Newbie army but if you want to play anyone experianced with them you had better be a darn good player (or bring a C'tan).
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Necrons are definitely a tough army.
They're often seen as cheesy because they have unique abilities: WBB, Teleport, almost invincible monolith, gauss rule.
However, tthir units totally lack in flexibility (i.e. no veterans or heavy weapons), they have almost no power weapons no AP3 weapons, and only 1 AP 2 weapon, plus a few weaknesses of their own such as phase out.
They are in fact pretty hard to play, especially since you have to think hard to actually maximize their strengths..."hmmm, will my Lord use the VoD and teleport? But then his resurrection orb won't work anymore for this unit of warrios!!"
"Hmm, I'd like a small, flexible unit of 3 destroyers!...But then if they got shot they cannot WBB"
And so on.....
I always have the problem of balancing my army. Its hard to do and still have a good phase out number.
Bit of advice. Destroyers are your friends. The AP 4 gun of theres destroys alot of nids and really messes IG up. Plus if you get full squads, that's 15 shots at 36 inches on a 3+ to hit roll. love love
Neccrons can be a pretty easy army to use, but they are hard to master. Like of like Space Marines, just thier toughness alone allows for mistakes to me made and no harm done. Kinds of mistakes that could get an Eldar or Tau player killed for good.
However, there are enough intricacies and tactics that can make them fun for a long time. They are different, and people don't often like different.
