If any squad want to assault my hive tyrant and his retinue, do they have to take a moral check?(cuz the horror)
a)only if he is assaulting base to base the hive tyrant.
I understood it as always or b). But I could be wrong.
With the exception of fearless models, any unit (without a fearless model) must pass a leadership test against the hive tyrant. If the tyrant is part of a retinue then the retinue benefits from this just like any retinue or squad benefits from being fearless when joined by a unit with fealess...

The Horror is actually a pretty cool power, don't you think? the absolute bane of low ld armies. But yeah. If you want to slug it out in cc (not advised for health and safety reasons) you have to take the test. Unless your fearless, aka suicidal.
