Welcome to Librarium Online!
Im a noob to 40k and ive pretty much decided to start a tyranid army and the carnifex excited me so much that i did some math and came out with a 220 point carnifex with extended carpace scything tallons acid maw tusks crushing claws flesh hooks toxin sacsbonded exoskeliton and wanted to kno if it was legal to have acid maw and tusks if not i'll drop the tusks please respond.thanks.
The codex doesn't say you can't have both.. Just says you can only have one tail weapon and one between Thornback, Spine Banks, and Spore Cysts. You don't really need Acid Maw, anyway... With a strength of 10, you'll be wounding anything on 2's. Also, the fex listed only costs 186 points if my math isn't wrong.
However, might I recommend against a CC-oriented fex? They are pretty slow moving at only 6" per turn, no fleet, and just the standard 6" charge. It can be easily avoided by your opponent if they simply move the other direction. A carnifex with either Venom Cannon, Barbed Strangler, Enhanced Senses, and Extenced Carapace (173 pts) --or-- 2 x Twin Linked Devourers and Enhanced Senses (113 pts as an elite choice - add Extended Carapace if a Heavy Support choice, 138 pts) would be much more effective, and is cheaper.
If you stay with your CC-fex, I'd highly recommend adding Adrenal Glands-Initiative to go before power fists... It might also help to add Adrenal Glands-Weapon Skill and Toxic Miasma to help out the base WS-3 on the fex.
Thanx for the responses ill haveto think up a ranged fex now(i was so excited about what a cc fex could do i overlooked the 6 inch assult).
Blah! Once I get my Tryanid army building I'm going to field at least one CC-Fex. Scything Talons and Crushing Claws looks way to wicked not to field one ^_^
Though, I honestly didn't know the Fex could be fielded to be such an effective ranged combatant. I'm going to have to go over my codex again >_>

I will also add that a 220 point fex is REDICULOUSLY high. YOu said you were new to 40k, which this is a large problem that alot of new guys have...I know I did. Keep your fexs low, and don't load them down with alot of morphs that you will never use.
If you really want a heavy uber cc fex then go for it, a lot of people say they are crap but there's always a place for them, go into a cityfight or lert one hold an objectieve.
As having multiple heads, it's a lot of fun of simply fusing heads together asnd can make a fex looks really different.
As for the uber cc fex, don't you like to have something that looks like this
The ranged wepons for the tyranids don't look so good after i looked over them last night.from what i saw the tyranid ranged wepons aren't really that strong and kool fexs u posted.

Devourers really should NOT be underestimated!!
And for the Barbed Strangler with Venom Cannon, it work and that's all it need to do if you want something to work. Since a str 8 pie and 2 str 10 shot just are nasty, basically sort of like the double twin devourer fex.
There are reasons why people field them, and if they didn't work they wouldn't be fielded/recommanded so much.

K thanx ill look into making a ranged fex but i dont see the use of the venom cannon really.
