is the only way to beat a pack of nid is to focus alll your assulting stuff on then or can you acttally beat them with 1 sqaud of you stander tactical squad
well basically vanilla marines cant beat tyranids in combat
more numbers + more claws > Vanilla
of course this is a different story for Cc orientated SM like ba,BT,SW...
Tyranids can be beaten in close combat. Most players make the mistake to spend too many points on wargear - but hordes of basic marines are a 'nid player's worst nightmare. Especially marines with 2ccws (assault squads without jump packs, CSM) are very hard opponents.
Scorpion heavy Biel Tan and Wych Cults are also very difficult opponents. Being both a DE and a tyranid player, i see very few chances to win with tyranids against a wych cult. The wyches outshoot and out-assault the 'nids (and they're way faster).
Yeh.but i was just thinking isnt 64 gaunts non leaping with spine fists better than 32 standard hormagaunts, what with all the wounds?, i can see how this can be aposed no matter how many models u have.
I just noticed the ork battle force is betteer value than the eldar one.
First off, scythegaunts are generally superior to spinegaunts.
The problem with very cheap gaunts is that they won't all fit into base contact unless your opponent plays IG. You might have tons of gaunts then which are superior to hormagaunts, but not all of them can fight properly at the same time (in case of spinegaunts this doesn't matter that much, as they have only one attack anyway). Therefore it is worth considering to use two lines of gaunts: Scythegaunts in the first line, they make it into base contact, and hormagaunts behind them.
You have to be careful to leave a hole in the scythegaunt brood though, because the hormagaunts need to reach base contact with the enemy with at least one model. Otherwise, they may not charge.
Nids can be beaten in hand to hand, its just bloody hard cos thats what theyre for. They suck against shooty armies(guard, tau) but against orks then they really shine. its best to have a medium size unit of spinegaunts to soften up the troops ready for the hormaguant assult
