Welcome to Librarium Online!
After reading some of the posts about and the problems i've come across while starting my nid force, is was wondering if some of the more experienced guys wouldn't mind putting together a starter help thing. I'd be happy to help if need be. Maybe, for example like assembling fex's. I've found that it's best to paint the model without the arms on, making it easier to get in the hard to reach places. Just things like that. Also, like equiping MC's how it's best to go for shooty then cc and that's it's not a good idea to mix their roles. I think a quick and easy to read list of things that make things easier while building an army that could save time and money for the new peoples could be really helpful. I know there are tactica on equiping fex's and tyrants, it's not meant to be like that, it's just to help so people don't stick their models together and find that they're hard to paint and they don't do what they want on the battlefield. What are your thoughts? Post if you think that it's a good idea or if you have any suggestions on what could be included in the list.
The only experience I've had that might be usefull to you is this:
About glueing a fex together: I glued together the legs, tailpiece and base as 1 section,
the body(main hull with the arms on), and the head. (3 sections)
The arms aren't too bulky I think, so those aren't gonna obscure details on the body.
The main body is the worst detail-oscuring part. The hollow places where you put the head and the legs are really bad. (half the head and a part of the spine are concealed under that huge ribcage)
I can't imagine it would be paintable as 1 part.
And about equiping Monstrous Creatures: Rending claws aren't very usefull on these guys, their high strenght and their ability to ignore armour makes the bonus from rending very minimal (mostly it just auto wounds instead of first having to roll a 2+. that's not someting i would pay points for.)for a fex, I think Crushing Claws are pretty good. For a HiveTyrant, I like scything talons and wings.
Hope that's usefull!

I also split the fex model in two halves, this makes it very easy to paint, also assembling the entire model but keeping it of it's base also helps a lot.
AS for what to equip them, that depends on what job you want them to do, but if you need any help check the following link to my godzilla army, you might like some of them.
Its easier to paint the carnifex if you make it magnetic so you can paint all of the arms/heads/backs separately..
