ok i have decided im goin to start a tyranid army. wat is a good solid 500 pts cc army with lots of troops and even more attacks??
any suggestion will be appreciated
If you have the money a good place to start is the battle force. It's great value for money and gives a solid, basic start. the warriors are a good HQ unit for small size games and cen be equiped to be nasty cc monsters. Give them rending claws and scything talons. Also the genstealers are great against marine equivelant's. the basic 16 gaunts is also good. Other than the hormies, i recommend equiping the other 8 gaunts with spinefists. they're great for soaking up casualties. I'm not sure what points you can get from it, but the adittion of the carnifex is great as well. After that i'd recommend another box of gaunts. This will give a fairly basic and numerous starting force of about 750pts. This is one what i have done and it's been great. I recently purchased a hive tyrant, which rounds me out to 100pts will lots of upgrades.
Personally, I don't like small games, so, take this with a grain of salt and pepper. I would take warriors as your HQ, lots of gaunts, some hormies and/or stealers and "special", ('Fex, Lictor, Ravs, something that will mess with most opponents).
My biggest advice is to buy a box of warriors, two boxes of gaunts, a box of stealers, put it all together and play. You will need this stuff anyway, so, you might as well start with it.
EDIT - Dang it, Marvus beat me to the punch and with better advice. Darn you to HECK, Marvus.

I think a good 500 point army would be something like a Hive Tyrant with Gaurds and two groups of Genestealers then if you have the point perhaps some Warrios or a Carnifex.
^My stlye is to have a more lasting army with more elite choises, use extended carpace on those Genestealers and you'll have a decent army.
Though the Broodlord is a good choice, very solid creaure he is.

Hehehe. Both our adviceness are(is?) good. If you want to get the stuff in smaller hits so you can build and paint them before you get, then THE Hershes idea is good. ALthough the battleforce is value for money. In Australia, buying everything seperatley it costs about $190-200, but in the battle force it's $150. good value, assuming you're going to use all the models.Originally Posted by THE Hersh
thx guys for the advice but what equipment do u think i should put on them? what wat point limits do u think i should have whne i hav a battle force because i dont want to have a 1000pts battle force(just exxagerating) but still i dont want to overload my 'nids
Am I the only one around here who prefers fleshborers to spinefists on gaunts? One point seems like a pretty low price to pay for much more firepower.Originally Posted by Marvus
One more point on 50+ gaunts is a whole heck more Gaunts. That and I prefer the reroll to hit over the reroll to wound.

This is a good reason.Originally Posted by THE HershThis one.. well, I fired up my calculator (yes I am the bean counting type, especially when it comes to five point models) so that I could blow you out of the water... and promptly blew myself out of the water. It turns out the spineys actually do BETTER against weedy guys and although the fleshborer type do better against say marines, they do so by a much smaller margin than I thought.Originally Posted by THE Hersh
Add that to reason #1 and I am seriously reconsidering my stance on this issue, lol.
One thing I do that might not be the brightest thing is to assume that everything I am fighting has a 3+ save, in part because it seems like that is how it is at most stores, and in part because I find that the bugs have exactly zero trouble with any army that doesn't. Still, I am no long sure at all that fleshborers are the better choice even against the 'ard stuff.
Thanks for the fresh perspective.
For arming guys i'd give them:
Hormies: Nothing extra, just the scything talons
Gaunts: Spinefists and nothing else
Genestealers: I prefer just to give them extended carapce. The cheaper the better, but EC makes them live soo much longer
Warriors: If you want cc warriors them give them leaping, ST (scything talons), Rending claws (RC) and extended carapce to begin with, maybe adrenal gland-I
Fex: this is a tougher one. I can't tell you what you should put on it, only that do not mix cc with shooting. I also found with my first fex i equiped it for a cc roll, however this was not such a good idea as i have no shooting in the list and it takes a long time get to close combat. I'd suggest venom cannon, barbed strangler and enhanced senses. It probably won't fit in a 500pts game but you'll most defenitley use it in larger games and it is great multy enemy killing.
I'll do another post on the points you're looking at later cause i gtg, but i'td still be good to get other people's advice on equiping things.
