What does everyone feel is the best tank hunting unit we have available?
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
I'm more fond of either Grenades, Witchblades or Shuriken Cannons. Grenades because they are fairly cheap and are reliable (provided you get them into play). Witchblades are much the same, but a model with a Witchblade generally has 3 attacks, which is damn good for tank busting. Shuriken Cannons I like because no one expects a Shuriken Cannon to deal with tanks. They are exceptionally effective vs AV10-11, and moderately effective against AV12, and almost every vehicle in the game (bar Land Raiders + varients and the Monolith) are sporting those magical numbers on their sides or rear, which a ripe for exploitation by Vypers, Jetbikes, etc. I'm not a large fan of Bright Lances, as I can't rely on that single shot which still only has a 50% chance of damaging tank, and that's provided it hits! I've also heard some nice stories about D-Cannons, although I would assume short range would be limiting unless the enemy was coming to you full speed.

You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
The Tank Hunter.
S10, AP2, 72"range, large blast.
Sorry about the post. I saw it on the ticker and didn't realize this was an eldar room.
I agree with the witch blade. It always gives me a problem.
My blast template of S10 AP2 will toast all terminators.
My Farseer with a spear has always done well killing tanks and my opponent is never expecting it (not sure why).
My reaper exarch has done alot too, but I picked the Farseer cause people seem to ignore it more. The reapers have a big bullseye on them from turn 1.
I haven't finished up my fire dragons yet so I can comment on them, but the tanks always stay too far away for my wraithguard to be effective at all with tank killing. Everyone knows what wraithguard are good at tank busting and it's pretty easy to stay 12" away esspecially with thier slow 6" move.
I don't like either of those units for Tank Hunters, since they should all have a different job.
Shining spears aren't tank hunters, they are shock assault troops. paying about 200 pts for a BS5 bright lance is insane.
Fire Dragons without a transport aren't tank hunters, they are tank hunted
Fire Dragons with a transport can take out tanks, but they should be used against heavy infantry anyway.
Dark Reapers aren't tank hunters, they are there to take care of heavy infantry and that is what they do best.
Farseers on bikes, they have a Singing Spear, that's cute. But then, who needs a 12" lascannon that can't get penetrating hits? Not me.
I prefer Bright lances on different places in my army to take out AV13-14 stuff, and then other str 8 weapons or str 6 weapons to take out weaker vehicles. Shuriken Cannons, Star Cannons and Pulse lasers for example. I like to "reach out and touch someone" when it comes to tanks, and I like to reach far. I'd say that any TL BS3 or BS4 Bright Lance is the best anti-tank weapon we've got, it can take care of anything except monoliths. (It can, but without luck you're screwed.)
I usually have 2 Bright lances in 1500 pts when mounted on Black Guardians, and 4 Bright lances when mounted on Black Vypers and Black War Walkers (USF in other words). And then I have a lot of Star cannons and other stuff.
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
I voted for Farser on Bike bu Fire Dragons iin a Falcon have got the job done, 10 is overkill on a tank and running arround isnt a good plan.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Ya I guess I have gotten lucky on the penetrating hits table with the spear and it's just unexpected even if u glance.
But hey a reaper with a heavy 2 krak missle hurts tanks bad. most the time if u have a smart enemy he makes sure not to put those good ole powered armor/better troops in line of a reaper squad. That's what I like about having the exarch in the squad, it makes them anti troop or tank.
Of course I only have but 1 lance in my 1500pt army which is on my wraithlord. Having black guardians changes the view quite a bit since you have access to lots of lances at BS 4. I think if I was Ulthwe I would say lances too.
i've got to say its some sort of bright-lance platform.
i've always found the wraithlord w/ BL or waveserpent (preferably after its dropped off cargo) w/ TW-BL most effective.
but my favourite are easily the warp spiders. frankly they're just amazing.
sure its glance only, but dice-storming the glancing hits table is sure to do some damage, especially with the volume of damaging hits you can get by using their speed to hit rear/side armour.
I thought it odd that neither haywire grenades or brightlances were mentioned.
I prefer bright lances on wave serpants or wraithlords.

i think that the fire dragons are awesome at tank wrecking. as long as u give them a wave serpent. they can get right into the enemy and pose an immediate problem.
