I finished battle 1 of a 2 out of 3 mini-battle that I'm participating in, and I thought I'd share. The teams ended up with my Necrons and an army of Chaos Undivided vs. an Ork army and another Chaos Undivided team. Unfortunatly, due to my teamate being inexperienced with Chaos and a take and hold mission, we lost. But here's how my army list looked (we played 1250)
Necron Lord - Res. Orb
Troops - 50 Warriors.
Fast attack - 4 Destroyers.
Put them in a box of death, Lord in the center, and go for the kill. This worked pretty well, as I only lost 10 warriors throught the whole game, even with a lot of ordinance. My attempt to take out the Defiler with my Destroyers didn't work either, with my inability to roll 6's when it matters most. Unfortunatly, my teammate ended up with only a Predator left, so there was no chance of victory, especially with my Necrons out of range of the Take and Hold area on turn 6.
Still, we have re-worked our strategy, and we're going again tonite. My teamate will be playing his Tau army instead of Chaos. I've reworked my list by removing the destroyers and 2 warriors, and adding the Monolith in. This is because the Ork player is planning on getting rid of some of his heavy support and putting in a ton of orks. I plan on deepstriking right in the center of it all.
So, I'll be supplying the cannon fodder with my troops and the monolith, and my teamate is going with his Railgun, Broadsides (take that Obliterators), Ion Cannon, Stealth Suits, and two small squads of fire warriors.
This will either be a great battle, or we'll get swamped by troops. I'll report back when it's done.
If the greenskin is removing his heavy support, then there is practically nothing he can do to the 'lith. Rokkits will destroy it on 1 shot out of 108, and a Boss with PK (five attacks on the charge i think) can only destroy it in 1 out of 43 TURNS of assault. Zzap cannons are the only thigs which can really have a chance, and no one would accuse the of being reliable. Supa Stikkbombz are fairly unlikely to damage it as well can't be bothered with the maths for that one, and don't have the ork codex).
Lith is a very good idea.

I still have my Chaos opponent to worry about though. I'm not totally sure on the Obliterator stats, but I think they have Lascannons, and I'm sure he will be putting a Land Raider on the table as well. That's why the Monolith is deepstriking, it always has a big target on it at first.
