Wondering if anyone has ever had a high I librarian used agains there Hive Trant in any situation, using a force weapon of course.
Any stories at all?

I haven't played against one, but use one all the time for my SM army. They are very effective as character killers, or in this case tyrant killers. If you are faced with one, try and tackle it with single wound models (nullyfying force weapon) and lots of them. Ideally a broodlord with implant attack and a retinue couls take down the librarian and combat squad.
my story isnt about a Tyrand itsa bout my poor 200pt CC fex. he made it dsown field and into a termie command squad and kilkled all termies leaving the Lib witch proceded to poke me in the knee with his force weapon and suck out my body from the inside (
I used to run two winged tyrants and bumped into a high init librarian, they are pretty tough but on average wont kill you that often. If they charge you the can get 6 attacks, half of which will hit, and leaving him 3 dice to roll a 6 for the wound (and 1/6 of those will be saved) and then he will make his psychic test and you will die. But that librarian will be just as many points as your tyrant and wont be as effective against the rest of your army once the tyrant is dead...he is still tough, but I think most marine players would call him a point sink against a non-monsterous creature tyranid force which is what you are if you keep your (typically faster) model away from his. Just don't let him use multiple psychic powers a turn (as that is cheating) and you have nothing to worry about.
EDIT just watchout for the Grey Knight Grandmaster. If you don't get the Init upgrade he will own you just about everytime (especailly if you are shooty)...and then run off to kill more than his points worth in other guys...

If you can't avoid librarians, then at least reduce their chance to pass that psychic test. Shadow in the Warp, Psychic Scream, they all work wonders there.
Hive Tyrants are like any other model in the game, you have to judge their effectiveness against a target model.Originally Posted by CombatPlayer
I would not send a HT into battle with a Librarian simply because of the force weapon, I always hit them with stealers (its really funny to watch as the non inv save librarian takes multiple wounds).
Hive tyrants are good against infantry / low save models like termies and armour. I always give my HT rending claws and implant simply because when he hits a high WS/ high TGH model if he rends on the to hit he does not have to worry about rolling a 4+ to hit and 4+ and higher to wound and if the model fails its save it loses two wounds.
Works brilliantly against Daemon princess/ Wraithlords etc.
You might not think rending is wortwhile on HT but its helped me win games no end of times.
Librarians are high on my broodlord kill list, I only send in the tyrant if the librarian has already used a psycic power so his force weapon won't do a thing.
Actually, one tactic that has worked for me is to attack the Librarian and retinue with my shooty fex. A couple of turns of pounding wittles the unit down and their is a chance the Librarian and crew will move to engage the 'Fex. With the T and EC upgrades, the chance of the Librarian wounding the 'fex are pretty slim. Even if he does kill the 'Fex, it has ussually taken most of the game to do it, mission accomplished.

That's not strictly correct, without fail if I'm using a Librarian against nids I always give him a Command squad + Furious Charge + Master Crafted Force Weapon. Having made sure I get the charge (even if I have to hide 13" in cover..I'm not ashamed to admit it)....it's a case of 6 attacks with a re-roll to hit and then only a 5 to wound. Seeing as I'm typical rolling for a 5 on 4/5 dice...I haven't yet failed the crucial roll. My Librarian has thwacked quite a few monstrous creatures about the face with his force axe. The Broodlord on the other hand is rather different beast.Originally Posted by nichodemus10
The best way to take down a Librarian even with a squad as back up is to hit them with Hormies, a decent sized unit will keep the squad in CC (remember if the hormies are in synapse range they are fearless), the Librarian is an IC so he can only hit models in B2B which works in teh Hormies favour, whittle down the supporting unit and then hit them with a unit of Stealers at int6 and its goodbye librarian, 4 or 5 Stealers hitting the Librarian will make mince meat of him.Originally Posted by Addoran
