Which HQ is the better choice? I have a Tyrant but I was thinking about a Broodlord.
the brood lord can basically do all the close combat damage of the hive tyrannt, except its not a monstrous creature. this has advantages since it can't be picked off, and he can make stealers infiltrate.
i guess, the tyrannt is a known juggernaut and opponents can kill it and will kill it.
I thought you said they wouldn't charge us!
What I said was: I didn't think they would charge us and win. And I still believe that.
Then if they can't win, what are they doing charging us?
It's possible, I suppose, their commander disagrees with my assessment...
Their both good HQ's, if you play with a lot of scenery though I would advice in getting broodlord so it can infiltrate itself, if your facing high intiative characters take the broodlord as well.
Take both. Seriously in games above 1500pts there is no reason not to take both. I've used both in a game, my opponent was having a heart attack as no matter which one he decided to destroy the other would get to him. He decided on the tryant, so when my broodlord reached his lines, it was all over.

If someone helps you, or you just like what they say, rep them
There is a reason the Broodlord is a 0-1 choice. He can go through an army by himself if you get him into melee fast and keep him there. If I could play two Broodlords and knew I would have infiltrate I would.
With only getting to Infiltrate 2/3 of the games a Broodlord and Hive Tyrant is nice.
As far as melee goes I prefer the Broodlord. Hes not a MC yet still has attacks that deny a save. He cant be picked out across the field if he has to foot slog as hes is an IC or has a retinue to soak up the wounds.
About the only time I would not take a Broodlord is if you knew you would deffinatly not get to infiltrate and a majority of the opponants army is skimmers and the Broodlord would leave me with no decent guns to bring them down.
The IG player in my play group audibly groans when he sees the Broodlord on the table, even when hes not playing. Most games my Broodlord (and Retinue) take out 1/3 to 1/2 his army when he infiltrates.
The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
I don't blame him for groaning... lol.:x I HATE Broodlords. I've been lucky enough to only come across one once, but... Guh. It STILL owned half of my army before I finally got lucky and killed him with 3 powerfist hits... I still have nightmares... The screams... The blood...:xOriginally Posted by Arpod
Well, my only input is that no matter how killer a unit is in HtH, it is still nice to be able to shoot. Say you're facing an Eldar, DE, or Kult of Speed list, whose vehicles all can all need 6s to hit, or who will stay OUT of hth with you because of their speed. Its nice to have some ranged firepower. I think I'd put in my vote to have one of each as well, since despite this limitation, for the points the Broodlord is still a steal.
Wow, this is always my favourite topic. I use one of each normally as they're both great and cool.
They do have advantages over each other so I'll compare them as has already been done.
Broodlord: Infiltraes (very useflu), S6 (if wanted), only 3+ armour also he has to pick between IA and AM (slight disavantage) and only 3 wounds.
Hive Tyrand well unless given gaurds can be picked out from afar. Has more wounds and can get better armour, though he wil either get there slowly or with wings which means it can be shot up. Can have many more bio-morphs which is great also has shooting cabability and the cool BS&LW weapon choice.
I would suggest feilding a vemon cannon Hive Tyrant with either gaurds or wings.
98% of the teen population has smoked weed, if you are the 2% that hasn't, put this in your signature.
There's just one thing I dont like about the Broodlord, he cant fleet of claw.
This effectively makes his retinue a meatshield, and at 16+pts a piece genestealers are way too expensive for that.
But unless you want a shooty HQ or need more synapse, go for the Broodlord, just know that he'll be Target #1 for MEQ armies.
I couldn't agree more! It doesn't matter how good a model is in CC if they can't get there! The fact that the brrodlord removes the FoC from his retinue really limits his usefulness. Sure infiltrate is nice sometimes, but it only works some of the time. The rest of the time they simply get shot to pieces. If the BL didn't require a retinue he would be much more useful IMO.Originally Posted by Gorbass
