I recently realized while reading in the forums that the Red Terror (along with Old One Eye) is still available under 4th ed. rules. I was looking him over and trying to figure out whether I think he is worth it. What do you think?
You can get some sense for the points cost by basing him off a tyrant:
Tyrant w/2xST and +1WS
The point cost is close, with a nod to the tyrant, and they have the same number of attacks with the same WS, strength and effects.
Both models have one worthless special ability (tyrant: the horror, terror: swallow whole) and one useful special ability (tyrant: synapse creature, terror: deep strike) so I think it is pretty fair to pretend those cancel each other out.
The real differences:
In favor of the tyrant:
1) Much higher initiative. Pretty important.
2) Higher toughness and wounds. Very important.
3) Marginally lower cost.
In favor of the terror:
1) Much faster. Very important.
2) Counts as fast attack. Kind of nice since that section of the bug list is wide open, and it lets you get another monstrous creature in there without screwing up your army composition.
All told he strikes me as a *tad* pricey but definitely worth thinking about.
To finish this post I would just like to point out that they could have written the last part of the Swallow Whole rules much more succinctly, as follows:
Swallow Whole: ...
The following models cannot be swallowed whole:
Anything that would not be killed by that many attacks anyway, or against which this ability might possibly be useful.
I think the Red Terror falls under the same category as all Special Characters do -
"Not really worth it, but sort of fun to play every once in awhile."
Like you said, he's mostly just another Monstrous Creature that you can throw into the Fast Attack slot. Makes for a maximum of nine MCs in a single list.First time I read the description, that's exactly how I interpreted it. Useless, IMO.Originally Posted by Drake Dun

It's a nice model, the rules for it are OK but not great, it's ability to swallow whole is only usefull against certain models and most of those it can't swallow at all.
Still it's a fast beast so it can support your raveners well.
Red Terror is worth it. The fact that it can eat a HQ whole is alone worth it!...unless it's a nurgle HQ...:x Yuck.
and for the record im sick of it being red, Im making a Blue Terror...muhahaha
I think he's really worth it. Just imagine what face your enemy will make , when he hears that the terror ate his HQ ) lol
(The terror can swallow hole anything that is T4 or lower )
how about the lictor character "Death Leaper". i havent used him before, his rules looks like junk..to me anyway!
would you use him:sleep: :x
I won't deathleaper for multiple reason's, it's more expensive than the lictor and all it has is an extar attec and a nifty special rules, also the converetd model for it is just ugly, I'll wait until our special cityfight lictor comes next year.
so theres a new lictor(new_rules) for cityfight or a new character...confused?
New model that can be used as a normal lictor but this one will also have special rules for it when the new cityfight codex get's released.
We also get new biovores.
New Biovores would be good. . . I was never a fan of the massive ball-sack.
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.
